Can anyone confirm that I understand something correctly (or not) :

If I turn on "automatic replan" in the traffic settings, TT will re-route around any traffic incident regardless of the time delay for the incident (i.e. it will plan an alternative route even if the alternative adds more time to the journey than sitting through the original delay)

If I use ALTERNATIVE ROUTES then MINIMISE TRAFFIC DELAYS, TT will only re-route if the alternative is quicker than the original including the expected delay.

Is this correct ?

Also, has anyone else come across TT sending them off a motorway at a junction and then straight back on, instead of just continuing up the motorway ? This happend to me twice tonight on the M25 (and no, I didn't actually go off !) between the A1 and the M11 juctions.
Thanks

Ainsley

This is correct, if tou have multiple delays reported, then you may find that TT will avoid some but not others, depending on the delay Vs re-route calculation.

Automatic re-route works in the same way as above, which is why you were redirected off and then back onto the motorway. I presume that TT traffic had delays on that section of motorway and was therefore trying to "minimize" them by getting you to "junction Hop" around part of the delay. Thumbs Up

So to confirm, both methods only re-route you if the delay is longer than the newly proposed route?

Personally I would not use the auto reroute feature. The problem with it is if a motorway is blocked, it will most likely re-route you along side roads to pass around the blockage. The side roads will probably not be monitored for traffic flow and with much of the traffic now travelling down these roads, there could be delays here that TomTom knows nothing about.
