Getting so fed up now with failed connectors that I have the wiring for the socket so thinking of making a lead to charge it separately via a decent connector. Anyone know the charge voltage needed? I'm guessing 5V but don't want to mess it up and blow it!!

If its a Mini USB connector which I think the device has the voltage will be 5V, you need to supply at least 500mA to the device from the regulator circuit although a VReg with 1000mA would be a better solution - Mike

It's the awful multipin connector MIO fitted to this device. 22 pin but I can easily fit an external socket. Thought it would be 5V but just wanted to make sure!

I have the Medion charging base for the Medion MD95000 (Mio 168 clone).

The mains power supply unit says:

Switching Power Supply
Ouput 5v - 1A max

Just to confirm that the Medion MD95000 is the same unit have a look at my web page HERE (opens in a new window).

A while back I had the same problem with my 168. I found an internet page that had photos of a couple of solder points, behind the 22 pin connector, that are good for the 5V input point. They are impossible to miss - the size of a small aircraft carrier compared to the pads the 22pin connector is soldered to.

If I can find the info I'll post it here.
