Evening all,

perhaps some could enlighten me?

I drive down the A3 daily, sountbound from Roehampton and just before the Kingston Bypass turn off, there are 3 cameras positoned within a few feet of each other. One of them looks to be Monitron, but the road has speed markers to the front and rear of the camera on the same side of the carriage way. Can this type of camera detect speed on the oposite carriage way using these speed marking? I only ask cause they just moved the camera from front facing to rear facing and the camera in not the middle of the road.

The other two cameras report to be 'cameras on test'. Small grey units, are they low emition reg plate readers ?

Finally, just to confuse the issue there is (quite regulary) a mobile police camera parked up in from these cameras and occasionally a DVLC van just before them.

So all in all there can be (and has been) 5 cameras in use at the same time on this stretch of road..

Just wondering why ?

Cheers,
Adam.

Adam, this installation was well covered around 18 months ago and is a trial set-up by a German Speed Camera Manufacturer, see This Thread for some details and pictures (on page 2), for additional information see Here - Mike

Shouldn't such test/trial systems be CLEARLY marked as such on approach/on camera, as they have no legal status?. And they serve only to confuse/panic us simple driving-folk even more - but then maybe 'they' think that will increase Cool safety more?

Last time I passed, they did have "Camera on test" signs on them, as does the one near the Gillette Building on the A4 coming into London at Brentford.

Thanks for the update Gents.

I wasn't aware of the previous thread, but the pistonhead link is almost spot on, with the exception there is now a second attachment on the number plate reader camera which I don't think has been mentioned before and not shown in the other pictures.

It looks very much like the double arm camera shown in the Redflex annual report....

And yes the facing n/plate camera is labelled as 'camera on test'.

So the far the score this week is:

Fowards facing 2
Reverse facing 1

They do like to play with thier new toys!

Adam.
