|
I have a full old style green paper UK driving licence.
How I convert the groups of vehicles that I can currently drive (A & E) into all of the equivalent groups of the current UK Photocard driving licence?
Can anybody recommend a website? As the DVLA and Directgov websites are useless for this query.

Hi again!
I'm positive when I did this online last year I didn't have to worry about any conversions. I've just tried again to have a look at the form but, quite sensibly I suppose, it says I'm ineligible and won't let me get through to the form filling bit, so I can't check now. They might have changed I suppose, but I can't see anything about conversion/groups on the initial pages where it tells you what you will need to do the transaction. _________________ David

Hi BigPerk,
Thanks for looking. I still can't find the "conversion" website. I think that the equivalent vehicles groups on the old paper licence and the newer Photocard driving licence is:
Old paper licence
A, E
Photocard driving licence
B, B+E, C1, C1+E, D1, D1+E, P
If you have the trailer (E) entitlement do you quote solo and vehicle with trailer (i.e. B, B+E) or just vehicle with trailer (B+E).
The funny thing about having an old green licence is that it sometime confuses those people that ask for a driving license as proof of identity as they often haven't seen an old green licence before.

Privateer - I am puzzled (at the moment!) as to why you need to bother with conversions at all. What I'm sure happened when I did it online was that among the details I provided were my licence number and passport number (for the photo), and DVLA did the rest - I didn't have to do any converting at all. My new licence automatically showed the new categories corresponding to my old ones. I would have thought this would go for the trailer entitlement as well.
THEY should sort it out in the new licence issuing process; after all, it wouldn't make a lot of sense for them to take your word for what you're entitled to - they would surely have to check it out anyway.
If there is any space for comments on the application, I guess you could ask them in there?
(Sorry if I'm missing something obvious ) _________________ David

Just tracked down my application form on DVLA and it's as I said, I didn't have to enter any of my current (or new) entitlement categories _________________ David

I'm applying for a job that asks for the groups of vehicles that are on my driving licence.

@Privateer
Presumably you have tried a phone call to DVLA? |

Ah, I see Privateer, sorry. You've probably seen this already but just in case Quote: | http://www.licencecheck.co.uk/category_codes.php |
FWIW, for cars my driving licence shows B and BE. Reading the above seems to say that B on its own covers you for smaller trailers/vehicles, and BE for larger ones. So that's probably what you want to quote.
I've had no luck at the moment with conversion sources in Google. _________________ David
