The X2 icons are the ones that display at top left, the others are the ones that indicate the camera position on the route.

The X2 icons take advantage of the larger icons size supported for icons at top left position only.

If you DON'T have the x2 versions, the TomTom has to "scale up" the normal sized icon to make the image in the top left corner as you approach a camera.
So having the x2 version makes it a bit better quality, (not any bigger though).

Thanks guys - I couldn't find the info on the site.
I had managed without the larger icons up until now.

Have a look down my web site page HERE (opens in a new window).

Shows what the X2 icons look like when displayed on the map screen.

Unfortunately, they won't look quite as large as they look there though.
With latest v8.3 software they are now displayed "box within a box" and there's nothing much we can do about it.

Taken from Mike' A's post in a previous topic about the x2 icons HERE.

PocketGPS's ones on his site are as big and bold as they can get, but they will still get shrunk down by the system software again. The same can be said for Gerry C's icons. I think he's made a version with the numbers as big as they will go, maximising the the usable area to get the final result as big as possible.
See http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/gerryc/misc/testing/camera-icons/index.html[/quote] for some examples.

Just as a matter of interest, what icon size do you see if you are solely using TT's own safety cameras with the 8.3 firmware.

Looking to use PocketGPS safety camera database on a TomTom One XL. Currently have the awfull Tom Tom subscription service but it is sooo wrong.

What would be handy is a simple update procedure. Plug in satnav, run PC (or SatNav) based utility which checks for update and installs any found. (much like Tom Tom Home does). I notice you have a Sync utility but it looks like this has been discontinued. Is this right? Manually downloading the files and copying to the Tom Tom could be too much for my OH (whose satnav it is).

Trouble is:

1. TomTom don't release any software tools to help people "get into" their system any more, and:

2. The PocketGPSWorld database is installable on around 53 different brands of SatNav - that's hundreds of different models! Producing sync software for all of them would be a monstrous task, even if it were possible.

3. There WAS a sync method just for TomToms, but that had to be discontinued when they went to a paid-for service, and the files are now created "on-the-fly" for each subscriber.

I know it can look a bit daunting at first, but once you've done it once (setting up all the warning voices and distances is what takes the time), updating with the latest version only takes a couple of minutes - you just paste the new files in the same place and let Windows overwrite the old ones.

Anyway... think of all the things I bet she does for you. Can't you do it for her? Very Happy

Yep, it's been asked many times. ;) The cameras in each set at completely separate as the UK set is in mph and the Euro set is in km/h. This is shown next to the download options.

Of course, if you're just in the one country all the time, you can get away with just your local set.

Cheers

I used to subscribe to the pocketGPSWorld database a while ago and now i have a new garmin satnav im thinking of re-subscribing.

Have the warnings of a speed camera become more acurate ?

If i am driving along a road i get warning about speed cameras that arn't on my side of the road.

ive heard the cyclops garmin database only alerts you to speed cameras on the side of the road you are traveling, does the PocketGPSWorld database do this now ?

thanks

You will still be warned of cameras on the other side of the road as Garmin do not allow anyone else to be able to offer directional warnings.
