Found a really interesting article following the OSM conference Here, and wondered if anyone in Germany could pass comment on the iPhone Navigation solutions using OSM mentioned.

Is this a midterm threat to the mapping divisions?

Is that OSMTrack? That's not Navigation, it plots your route for uploading to OSM (which is great, just isn't an alternative for TomTom et all).

No the app is called "Roadee"

At the moment it does not work very well Sad
It gives written turn by turn directions. Apparently voice is due in version 1.1
It also needs map cache and quite a few other bits
Its very much a work in progress !
1.19 for basic turn by turn is hard to beat though

OSM just isn't quite ready for road navigation. In fact much of what has been mapped isn't even available yet. For large city tours I understand the quality and completeness of the maps is as good or better than anything TeleAtlas or Navteq offers. But IMHO, it will be a couple more years before turn-by-turn is ready for OSM-based navigation. In the future it looks like a very serious challenge to the big map companies.
