Hi,
I have a handheld Garmin E-trex and Memory Map software. I have connected up okay to my laptop and set up the GPS okay. When I try to upload routes from the e-trex to the laptop, I get the message:time out receiving packet and the upload is not completed. Anyone have any ideas please. Thanks.

Hi,
It is a Garmin E-Trex. I have never had this problem in the past, but I have just re-installed the software, so the problem may have stemmed from there. Did not check baud rate etc, I will check it again. I only tried it on my laptop, I will try it on the desktop pc. Thanks.

For me, the usual cause is low battery power. Freshly charged ones restore the link.
Sometimes, turning off the eTrex and closing down MemoryMap and restarting both seems to improve matters.
Finally (if you're sure your interface settings are OK at both ends (PC and eTrex)) the following usually fixes it for me, with my serial connector. In the eTrex Interface, change the Serial Data Format from Garmin to NMEA and back to Garmin again. The eTrex usually hangs up and goes blank, but I just let it chew things over and it comes out OK, problem fixed.
