I know it's not directly PocketPC related, but it makes use of the PocketPC GPS database;
http://www.turbomr2.co.uk/gps/
I've built a speed camera detector plugin for Mappoint/Autoroute (Or as a standalone application with no need to use Mappoint etc)
Demo only has data for UK and some of Europe, only works with NMEA receivers at the moment, might adapt it to SiRF if I haven't lost interest anytime soon!
Just in a Beta phase at the moment - only took me a little while to knock together, tested with a Haicom USB receiver, although it should work with any NMEA compliant USB or Serial receiver. (You need to know what COM port it is attached to)
Available download is the standalone app, the COM object to plugin to mappoint is not quite ready, still testing/cleaning up.
Any bugs/feature requests let me know now whilst it's in development!
Once downloaded, unzip the file and run the program directly from within the folder, the .wav can be substituted with any wave soundfile, as long as it is named the same.
Also download the Speed Camera Database from this website.

That's an excellent idea. I have MapPoint, when you say you still need to intercept the NMEA stream will it still work as it is?

I'll give it a whirl Thumbs Up

One minor point, to conform with our T's & Cs could you link to the Safety Camera page at http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras.php rather than directly to the download please?

Ah sorry - ok link updated.
Yes, it'll work 'as is' - at the moment it works standalone, so you don't need mappoint or anything to use it, it reads from the GPS dongle directly.
I'm developing it as a plugin for MapPoint/Autoroute so as that it can be used whilst Mappoint is in operation (getting directions at the same time) but the 'standalone' version will remain available aswell as the plugin, just in case someone finds it useful!

Just found an excellent utility call "XPort" - this allows you to share your GPS data across several applications (EG have my SPeed camera Util running and receiving data, aswell as Mappoint/AGPS at the same time)
You simply choose the COM port where the GPS receiver is attached in the first box (make sure reciver is attached first), then in the adjacent boxes choose the new virtual COM ports - once done tick "Install service" to fire up the com ports, connect your MapPoint/AGPS or whatever to the usual COM port, then connect Speed camera detector to the virtual COM port, works well, this enables it to run alongside any other mapping software. Freeware too.
