|
|
I have a tomtom 730 and upgraded it to version 8.3 via tomtom home, and subscribed to the map update service so the device is now running navcore 8.3 with Western Europe 8.15.
I have just noticed that there is no longer an option to navigate to 'spoken address'. I have contacted tomtom support and they have recommened I downgrade my navcore. I asked if the new maps will still work and they did not know. I have not done anything yet but wondered if anyone on here knows how to get the ASR working again. |

Use Windows Explorer to view the contents of the map folder, are there any files named CSpeechXYZ (XYZ could be any letters) there should be quite a few of these?
If the are missing do you have a backup of the previous map folder and are the files in there - Mike |

Humour me on this........
Create a text file called support_asr.dat (NOT support_asr.dat.txt) with JUST the number 1 in it, no blanks, no carriage returns, quotes or anything else.
Put the file in the asr folder and try again.
I HIGHLY doubt this will work but............
This is the 'hack' that we in North America had to do to get VR working on our 720 units back when v7.10 of the North america map came out. _________________ David |

Firstly I tried creating the file as suggest by DHN and that didn't work.
I have the following files in my 8.15 map folder:
cspeech_BEL.dat
cspeech_GBR.dat
cspeech_IRL.dat
cspeech_LUX.dat
cspeech_NLD.dat
And in my backup from a previously working version I have the same five file names.
I forgot to mention, my device doesn't show the option to navigate to spoken address, it is not like it is greyed out, it is not there! _________________ -------------------------

I have found a work around for this.
If you configure the quick menu button you can select 'navigate to spoken address'
Then when you click on the curly green arrow on the screen the option is there to navigate to spoken address. _________________ -------------------------

Do you have a computer voice selected? If not, do so and see if it makes a difference. _________________ David |

I've just noticed this has happened to me too
Navigate to... Spoken Address and Spoken Address (Dialogue) are completely missing from the menu on my 720 running v8.300
I think when I had problems with this before, they were just greyed-out, but to be honest, I can't remember.
The cspeech files are in the map folder (20 of them:- "cspeech_GBR.dat", "cspeech_FRA.dat" etc.) and I have switched to a TTS voice.
Can anyone remember what's needed to get it working again? |

A pin reset, maybe. If not, try the Clear Flash. _________________ David |

Navigate to spoken address and spoken address dialogue are greyed out on my 940 but speech commands are still working as are spoken street names. I have the support_asr.dat file present.
They are both working on my 530. _________________ Drivelux |

It is not the system files causing the lack of navigate to spoken address it is the maps causing the issue.
I have backed up and restored files and maps and it is the North American and Western and Central Europe V815.2003 maps that cause the problem.
If I run the older maps from the SD card I have the spoken options.
The 815.2003 UK map is fine. _________________ Drivelux |

Which sort of implies it is the cspeech files (or another missing file) which is the problem.
But... I have exactly the same map build on a 940 and the options are still there.
Anyone got any ideas?
Pin reset and ClearFlash tried already (Sorry, I should have said that!) |

Do you have a text file called support_asr.dat with just a 1 in it (no quotes, no carriage returns, etc.) in the asr folder?
If not, create one with Notepad. (it's the hack we in NA had to do to get VR working on NA 720 units)
Make sure you have Windows showing extensions for known file types because you don't want to really create a file called support_asr.dat.txt and not know it.
The inclusion of the file may not help the situation but it can't hurt. _________________ David |

It is down to something in the map folder as by selecting the older map it works again.
It is not the cspeech file as I have tried transferring that from the older map folder to the newer and vice versa and it does not cure or cause the issue. I have also tried all the other files one at a time and I cannot find one that changes it which does not cause the map to lock up from having the wrong version. This appears to narrow the problem file down to either cline.dat, cnode.dat or faces.dat. _________________ Drivelux |

I'd just seen that in your earlier post...
I tried it and SUCCESS!
Icons now restored and function now works as well (or badly!) as it ever used to. THANK YOU!
Mr T - am I right in thinking we have two different issues running here?
Yours is greyed-out icons for "Navigate to... spoken address" and "Spoken address (dialogue)".
On mine, the icons had vanished completely, leaving only 4 icons on that page (re-arranged neatly as if that's how it always was). |
