I tagged this to my last, and now resolved issue, but thought it deserved its own slot. We have more than one 520 in family so comparisons are easy. The volume on this device used to run great at 75% but now it is having to be pushed to 100% so it begs the question why? It's not been abused, far from it. I transfered all the files & folders from the known good 520 to this one to see if this affected the audio but to no avail. I'm just having a little run of problems with this particlar 520 but so far have managed to rectifiy the others so, here's hoping. Ps have I mentioned that some Sound Effects Wav files I put in the "Sounds File" worked and others didn't? I don't know why so I decided to put them through a file converter and convert them to Wav (I know they were already Wav) but guess what? when I re introduced them to the audio folder they worked. Your file converter was probably set to alter the "bit depth" of the files from 8 to 16 bit.

Files put into the sounds folder can be at any one of several formats

"ogg" format files can be:
any sample rate 8000-48000Hz
mono or stereo
either 8 or 16 bit

"wav" format files can be:
any sample rate 8000-48000Hz
mono or stereo
but only 16 bit.
(8 bit samples will show on the page but will not be played)

"mp3" format files cannot be used, and will not show up on the page.

I noticed when TomTom started offering sound effects through "Home" that even some of those were 8-bit wavs. When I pointed this out to TomTom, all they suggested was that I gave the files a low "star rating" as feedback! Rolling Eyes

Thanks that clears up the Wav's, any idea why the device now needs to be pushed to 100% volume though Question

Here were my first thoughts.....

If you have two of the same device to compare,
and they are running the exact same software version
and using the same voice
and you have tried reinstalling the software
and you've tried a reset AND a return to factory settings (from the menu)

but it's still different, then I suppose it can only be a hardware fault?

---------------------------------------

But I just thought... I wonder if you have "Link volume to noise level" selected on one of them? (Change preferences/Volume preferences).

If I remember correctly, this feature isn't / wasn't working the right way round. Make sure it is OFF on both units, then compare.

If that doesn't sort it, go back to my first thoughts!

I gave un-checking the "Link volume to noise level" a go but it had no effect so I am thinking the same as you that it must be a hardware issue!
