I don't need much on my screen other than the map and have turned off things like time and speed but the big blue bar is the same size. Not a show stopper by any stretch of the imagination or of major concern but is there a way of shrinking the bar and giving me more map display ?

No, you can customise what information is displayed within it but you cannot hide it.

Cheers Darren. I'll just keep it as plain as can be.

Reading other threads people prefer a variety of stuff but all I want....I think....is street, possibly next street or road number and thats it really. Looks a bit bare though so might put back a couple of things. Not sure about the compass though...its not often I'm driving down the A303 and think..." I wish I knew what direction North is "

The blue bar at the bottom is not so big if you have Navcore 8.300 or 8.203/8.204 installed. Next road/street being displayed top right of the screen, rather than in the bar at the bottom. A nice solution I think Smile

Remember you can also have the status bar displayed vertically on the side of the screen. With the wide screen of the 720 this makes a lot of sense - better to see where you're going than where you're passing by. Not so much of a good idea if you have Traffic, though, as the Traffic bar is always vertical and you can hit the wrong one when you go to tap one of them.

As well as the better map display I find the information layout clearer with a vertical status bar, but I believe you lose ALG and Reality View.

I'd accept that I think. I'm sure the lane thing is handy but unless its a very strange junction and I had time I would never be looking at the screen anyway.

I'll try tonight with the vertical bar.....

No, you don't lose ALG & reality view. The screen changes to a horizontal status bar for the duration, and then reverts to vertical once you have passed the junction.

Hi topgazza
I had never thought about trying the Status Bar in the vertical position until I read followed this topic.
I have now changed it to the vertical position and to me it looks rather strange.
However, I will try it in anger later and see if its an improvement. After all, if it isn’t, its no problem to change it back again.

I've just tried a demo route, and you're right, Daggers.

I wonder when that was changed, as I switched from a vertical status bar to horizontal when ALG and Reality View were first introduced as I definitely didn't get them then.

Unfortunately, it does not work for ALG on its own. You need to have Reality View enabled.
