I have recently had my Ipaq replaced with an Eten pda.
The Ipaq 5450 ran on pocket pc 2003 and was very easy to pair to my Fortuna bluetooth gps device.
The Eten runs on pocket pc 2003 "phone edition".
The bluetooth manager is totally different from the version running on my ipaq.
Can anyone give me some advise on pairing my Fortuna clip on to my eten.
I've had a look on the microsoft pocket pc web site and it seems to give the same instructions as the pocket pc version.
It states to select start/settings system tab then bluetooth> bond devices tab then >new.
But there is no bluetooth icon present.
If i use the bluetooth manager on the task bar the menus are not logical
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I wonder if you've got the same problem as the XDA2 users with the early ROM - that there's no support for the Bluetooth Serial Port Profile.

I know nothing about the eten, but if the Bluetooth software looks different, the chances are that the eten is using the Microsoft Bluetooth stack rather than the Widcomm one that the iPAQs use. At least sometimes this stack has no Serial Port Profile support, which means it can't be used with a Bluetooth GPS as things stand.

Maybe an XDA2 user will come along and let you know how they worked round these issues until a ROM update was released for the XDA2 that did include SPP support.

Thanks for the reply David.
Let me give a bit more info.
When i go into Bluetooth manager i have a list of tabs on the bottom of the screen. Settings, vCard, File transfer, serial port, headset, about.
Within the settings screen are the options for turning bluetooth on and another option for on or discoverable mode.
If i go into the serial port tab i have 3 options 1)Register New Server Port.
2) Search Serial Port Service 3) Deregister Serial Port.
If i do a search serial port service it searches for bluetooth devices.
It finds the device and lists it as ClipOn-BTGPS.
If i highlight it and press "register new client port" it bring up an icon named SPP Slave.
If i highlight the SPP slave and press OK it brings up another page with the options Com prefix that can be set to BSP or COM and COM index that can be set from 0 to 9
It also has 4 tick boxs Authenticate, Encrypt, Remote DCB, Keep DCD
I've tried numerous combinations and pressed ok.
It brings up a registered OK box but there is no icon present to tap to attach to the GPS module
In the bluetooth manager it lists a registered bluetooth serial port with a role of client but nothing can be done with it.

I'd think you want Authenticate on, Encrypt off, Keep DCD is not likely to matter (on may be better) and I haven't a clue about Remote DCB (try off) - this is somewhat guesswork.

It sounds as if you can create a Bluetooth serial port - what happens after you've done that when you try to select that COM port number in your GPS application(s)?

Thanks David,
I've set the bluetooth setting to com 8 within bluetooth manager and ticked the options you suggested.
I ve set TomTom up as NMEA 0183v2 38400 on COM 8.
When i start TomTom i now get a bluetooth connection.
Unfortunately i'm not getting the running dots between the Sat and pda.
Almost there but not quite.
Any further info would be appreciated.

Regards Sean

Great! For reference, can you post the exact combination of boxes that works? I think you have Authenticate On, Encrypt Off, Keep DCD Off - what about Remote DCB?

I've set COM Prefix to COM
COM index to 8
Authenticate ticked
Remote DCD, Encrypt and Keep DCD unticked

Within TomTom GPS setup i've set it as follows
NMEA 0183v2 38400 (As per the Fortuna Clip on user guide)
Com 8

There doesnt appear to be any way of securing a bluetooth link to the Fortuna manually as i could on the Ipaq.
On the Eten once TomTom is launched a connection is made automatically.
To break the connection bluetooth needs turning off within bluetooth manager.
