Can anyone help.
This happened suddenly.
I switched on and it doesn't find one satellite. I eventually get an 'poor satellite reception' error.
Thanx

Take it outside to an area with a good clear view of the sky and wait for a while. It might take a good few minutes.
Try a reset. You'll need to make sure you have any usr defined data, (Favourites etc) backed up. The following is taken from this page Note the bits in Bold, Blue
Quote: | How do you reset the 60CS?
Hold enter and page while powering up to master reset the unit. The 76C and 76CS should use the same key strokes as they use the same firmware.
You now need to allow the unit to collect a full almanac before normal can be resumed.
First a fix will need to be obtained which can take from 5 to 10 minutes of leaving your unit outdoors, stationary, with a good sky view.
After the first lock you will need another 12.5 to 15 minutes to get the almanac reloaded. Check the date to insure that the information was reloaded properly. Time will be shown as UTC time since your local time offset was lost in the reset.
Re-establish all of your preferences such as time zone, daylight savings flag, etc.
Reload all your waypoints and saved routes from your backup.
WAAS capable receivers will have to re-establish the WAAS almanac as well. |

It happened sometimes with my 60CSx, especially if I had moved my location in between using the unit!
My usual method was to switch it on and place it on the roof of the car [supervised and stationary] for a few minutes. It seemed to enhance the signal! Other times I plugged in the Gilsson antenna.
If the unit is on the 'way out' then these will not work! |

Does it display any 'empty' signal levels at all (GPS Status screen) ?
If it does and they are moving up and down a bit then at least it is receiving something. If it is - follow the advice above by PaulB2005
Nothing in the status screen would indicate a more serious problem. _________________ Phil |

Thank you all so much for replying. The info Paul provided fixed it and now it appears to get a satellite signal even quicker than before!!
Thanx again!

That's how it's designed to work!
Once it has the almanac loaded then it is possible to get a fix that bit quicker - so upto a few days since switching off it should be fairly quick to fix. If you turn it off thna back on 5 mins later - it should be a few seconds getting a fix.
Glad it's working again. _________________ Phil |
