Hi, I have a Garmin eTrex GPS which I am trying to connect to my PC via a USB-Serial cable. I have the driver for doing the conversion (PL-2303). However, the Garmin uses COM3 port, the only COM port that I can see is COM1. How can I 'produce' another COM port on my XP system (service pack 2). I have had this working before but I am tearing what's left of my hair out. Mad Or is there another method of solving this problem? Confused

Thanks

Brian

Problem now resolved. I had to reinstall Windows XP and now all OK.

Very Happy

Sounds a drastic solution! Unless you really did have a damaged Windows system of course.

I had a problem with one of the PL drivers auto-incrementing the COM number each time my laptop booted - very annoying as Memory Map kept complaining it couldn't find my GPS unit - fixed this by uninstalling and re-installing the driver - I went back to a checkpoint prior to the original installation - first time I had to do anything like that - I was impressed how simple it was (and that it worked).
