Safety Camera Detection in France

Has anybody any current info on the legal use of POI safety camera detection use in France?

I understand that the use of RADAR detection equipment is a very serious offence. (Heavy fines, confiscation of vehicle, even prison) seems a bit extreme, but if thats the rule!!!!!!!!!

As far as I'm aware, you're absolutely right - radar and other detection equipment is illegal.

However, GPS positioning data (such as PGPSW database) for speed cameras is still legal in France to the best of my knowledge.

Andy is correct, radar and laser 'detectors' are prohibited, the mere possession of any such device will result in its confiscation and your arrest and or a large fine.

However, GPS POI based systems are perfectly legal in France so long as they do not contain laser detectors.

Please note that there have been stories of people being stopped and having their gps devices confiscated in france. In a previous post this was discussed, checked, and proved to be incorrect by way of a copy of some french legislation. Gps based speed camera devices are fine in france. It did also note in the same bit of legislation that lazer devices are illegal, as they are in many european countries!
