I don't know if I'm worrying about nothing but this morning I was passing a gatso and was just edging over 30 on the speedo. Prob 30-33mph. I did stamp on the breaks just as I went into the white line area. I presume speed cameras have a certain tolerance?

Only started driving 4 days ago so would be a nightmare if I got flashed. Not that I go speeding around the place.

The commonly quoted figure is 10% + 2mph

30mph + 10% (3mph) + 2mph = 35mph

60mph + 10% (6mph) + 2mph = 68mph

HOWEVER, some police forces and safety camera partnerships are rumoured to employ a zero tolerance - meaning that if you're over, you get done.

Having said that, though, your speedo should show your speed to be about 10% over the speed that you're actually travelling - so if it showed 33mph, you were probably only doing about 30mph

Does this help?

They do but the trigger speed is set by individual partnerships. I'd expect a 30mph camera to fire at 34-36mph or greater.

Edit: Beaten to it! I see you're using our database, did it not alert you?

Ok thanks. I think I'll just try and be extra extra alert. I already know full well there are two speed cameras along the road I travel to work. Just so many things to try and concentrate on. That or just avoid the road altogether.
