Anyone driving through a crossing occupied by a lollipop lady or abuses them for doing thier job deserves all the punishment coming to them. It's not really possible to behave like that by 'accident' is it. _________________ Paul

I hope the Police throw the book at anyone driving in the way mentioned in the news article, not a few points or a fine, they should be banned from the road - Mike |

Although I would never condone any such reckless or rude behaviour, perhaps the lollipop ladies themselves aren't helping the situation sometimes ?
This is certainly the case at a pedestrian-controlled crossing I have to pass through on my way to work, where the lollipop ladies have the unfortunate habit of pushing the 'Push to cross' button as soon as they get back to the pavement or the pedestrian island (it's a 'split' crossing), whether or not there is anyone actually waiting to cross, i.e. they are anticipating the next pedestrians will be there, waiting to cross, in a few seconds.
Therefore, traffic waits, often for a further 15 or 20 seconds, before the lights turn green, then only 2 or 3 cars manage to clear the crossing before the lights start their amber/red sequence !
I have had to wait in queues of 20 to 25 cars and other vehicles at school 'rush hour' times, so I believe further education of the ladies concerned would not go amiss either !
Or perhaps they should be able to override the remaining 'red' period for traffic, thus giving more vehicles chance to clear the crossing ?? _________________ Getting older and more senile by the minute !
