Microsoft have released Pocket Streets for the MS Smartphone platform. Offering similar map functionality to the PocketPC version you can locate addresses, junctions and POIs, download maps of cities an the US, Canada and Europe from the Pocket Streets website, or create your own using MapPoint, AutoRoute or Streets & Trips Desktop applications. Sync your maps to your Smartphone and have them available whenever you need them.
The only dissapointing ommission from this version is a complete lack of GPS Support! Come on Microsoft, this is a must have! Oh and did I mention that unlike the PocketPC version, this one costs $24.95 from Handango!. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Pocket Streets 2002 and 2003 has never worked with Bluetooth GPS receivers on Pocket PCs, anyway. I had a long support conversation with MS, many months ago, which ended with "Yes, it doesn't work that way". :/
Essentially, what I could glean from the somewhat fruitless exchange was that PS200x accesses the COM port hardware at a lower level than the virtual COM ports that the Bluetooth stack presents and therefore cannot "see" nor can it use these ports.
Was it likely to change in the future? Probably not. |

If this is PocketStreets 2004 then there should be no problem as it works fine with a BT receiver on a PocketPC. Maybe the functionality has been omited for some other reason? |

The Smartphone version completely lacks GPS support, there is talk that it 'may' make it into the next update but for now it's not available. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Well it's good to hear that they may have finally sorted out the Bluetooth virtual COM Port problem in PS2004. Shame the map data is worse. Presumably PS2004 is not backward compatible. Can you confirm which PPC this is working on and with which OS and BT GPS receiver, please, and whether it just worked out of the box?
As for the Smartphone version, sounds like a major blunder to have left out GPS support altogether. |
