Please excuse the question - I have looked and cannot seem to find a straight answer.

I have a TT720 out of the box with Western Europe maps 705, downloaded 710 and stored it on the memory card.

What I fail to see is why should the map be stored on the card and then have the option to use either version of Western Europe.

I would have thought that I should replace 705 with 710 on the device itself & not bother with the map on the card.

Apologies if this is a stupid question, but advice sought please.

Thanks, Simon

Of course you can delete the 705 map and put the 710 in its place. It might be prudent to copy the 705 to your HD first, though.

You didn't think it should put it on the SD card but should have replaced the existing map.

Now look at it from the other point of view....
Someone else would shout that the new download wiped out their old map so they couldn't compare the two before deciding to delete the old one.

Thanks for the replies.

I have backed up using Home, and a win file system copy to another drive.

So assume next step is to replace the files on the 720 with those on the SD card. I have tried using win file system but get the message that there is not enough room to "copy the files".

What am I missing?

Thanks

Simon

Are you trying to extract the new map into the same location as the existing one? Are you offered the option to overwrite existing files? You need to say 'Yes'.

Hi - yes - I want to use the new map from the 720 directly rather than the SD card (unless this is the accepted practice)

No - I am not given the option to overwrite. I looked at folder properties - it was read only - so I unchecked the box. I simply get the message there is not enough room to copy the file

Thanks

Simon

Once you have your backup, you need to remove the original map using TomTom Home - then you can install the new map in its place.

Right, what is the map directory on your device called? What is the name of the map you are trying to load onto the device, what format does it take (e.g. Western_Europe.zip), what programme are you using to extract it with and where on the device are you trying to extract it to?

On TT720 device the map directory is called Western_Europe

I am trying to do a windows file copy of updated map files that were loaded onto the SD card from TT home 2.2. The SD card has many folders and files (not zipped). So I am not extracting it I am simply trying to copy / move the new files from the SD card onto the same locations on the 720. If this is the wrong procedure then sorry for wasting your time.

I see there is an option to install the maps from within TTHome 2.2. It tells me I have one set of maps (v705) on the device (TT720) and another set of maps (v710) on my computer (then shows the path). Is this what I should be doing to update the maps rather than a file copy?

Thanks

Simon

If you get the option to use HOME 2.2 to sned the map on your computer to the device, do that. (I know lots of people don't rate HOME, but it generally works for this sort of thing.) Make sure that you have selected the internal memory on the device from within HOME. If it still says you don't have enough room, use HOME to remove the existing Western Europe map (you really did make that backup, right?) and then try again.

Thanks - used home to do this and it worked fine.

What confused me is the fact on the TT website it tells you to install the maps on the SD card.

Thanks

Simon

Where?
It's likely the instructions may have been written before TomToms even HAD internal memory.
