manually entering coordinates question

hi all,

i have a etrex venture hc and was wondering if any one knew how to enter coordinates from an os explorer map into it.

the datum is set to "ord srvy GB " i am confused as there are 10 figures to enter second line starting BNG any help would be appreciated,thanks

BNG = British National Grid

The first line is the two letter grid reference and up to 5 digits for the easting. The second line is up to 5 digits for the northing.
Have you got an example coordinate? If it's something like NN166712 then NN is the grid reference, the first half of the number is the easting (pad with zeros to make up to 5 digits) 166(00) and the second half is the northing 712(00).

thanks for the reply ,yes you are spot on with the cordinate you use for an example thats just what i would have wanted to enter it as a 6 figure reference(8 with the letters)
