So I have a 910 and a number of maps which all cover the UK.
Anybody know of a way to use the SAME POI files for all of them. In other words if I was to add to a POI category in one map, the same change will also be visible should I switch map.
Not copies of the files in each directory - in UNIX I'd create a hard link but can this be done on a GO? |

No, you do need to have actual copies of each poi (the .ov2 file and the matching .bmp icon file) in each map folder.
If you edit or add a POI in one map, you'd have to re-copy that POI category's ov2 file to the others if you wanted the changes to show on the others.
But why have you got several maps covering the UK anyway? (only reason I can think of is that they are "Plus" maps for European countries and have the major roads of the UK included? |

Not a lot of point in that - the 910 came with Western and Central Europe.
I too shall await the answer with breathing bait. _________________ Dennis

As has been said, a POI file needs to exist in each map directory you wish to use it in. But as a 910 only has the contiguous Western Europe, USA & Canada & Guam maps installed that is only three maps. Do you have others? _________________ Darren Griffin |

well, halitosis apart...
I have UK map, western EU and Western & Central EU maps.
Uk is MUCH faster than the others
Western EU is my most up to date and most frequently used, especially on longer journeys.
Western and central has greatest coverage.
OK so I dont tend to switch that often but it's frustrating to not have my latest POIs when I do switch maps.
As the go is unix based it ought to be possible to create hards links to the POI files in two of the maps and they all refer to a single copy hence will always be current in all maps.
I havent hacked my go to get to sh - yet. Wonder if its worth it. |

And, like you two, I'm from what used to be the largest County in UK. _________________ Dennis

Good luck!
I'm sure others will be interested in your results if you manage it. |

The easiest way to get to the shell is through a BT serial console. Either with the open sauce BT plug ( opentom.org ) or with the TomTom provided one. Wait, the latter only came with the SDK which is now discontinued. _________________ Lutz
