Have been sent the following images, with information that they are a new type of speed camera being introduced in South Africa. However I'm dubious - any takers what these might be?

Thanks for posting those. I shall obviously have to keep my eyes peeled when I'm over there in March.
I try to keep to the limit, but their roads are so straight and empty it's easy for the speed to creep up unintentionally. _________________ Anita

any more information on them to me it looks like an IR sensor on our house alarm ;)
could it be traffic monitoring? any other info from the person who sent the pics?

No more info about the photos unfortunately. Have to agree that they look like IR sensors - maybe for monitoring bus movements or something? I don't reckon speed cameras though... |

There's a picture of the exact same setup as you show above on page 4 or 5 of the .pdf doc in the last link.
So according to those links, the pictures you have above are of just the radar/laser detector bit, and there should be a great big ugly camera post nearby too. |

Wow, so it's a LIDAR redspeed camera - wouldn't have believed it!
