Just checked on google maps, about 6hrs drive for me so i think i`ll be missing this one. Maybe next time it could slightly further north? Even, say, north of London maybe??
OK, let me get my new map downloaded and working for #7, then I'll see what's to be done - Midlands area? March '08 anyone? I personally shall NOT be looking for Saturday 8th March - Grandson's big ice hockey match. New thread of course. _________________ Dennis

OUCH!! Quite by pure coincidence today I had a delivery to Brighton and my route took me through Alton, so I went for a quick scout of the lie of the land. The Windmill Inn, described to me by the Travelodge lady as "about 15 minutes" walk "just up the road", should have been described as 15 minutes walk at King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry pace!! It's got to be a mile! All uphill. And the footpath is not continuous on the same side, requiring crossing the A31 in the dark, with some road diggings on the way too.
So Vera and I will be going there and back by taxi!! (I never drink and drive). Anybody wants to join us (even if only for the return trip) is welcome. We'll be going there about 6pm for a carvery. _________________ Dennis

You can check into the travelodge anytime after 3:00 so my Emma and I were aiming to get there shortly after, and as spritely as I may be a taxi sounds like a prefered choice to assend to the Summit Inn. I'll be asking at reception for you. _________________ Dom

We have similar arrival plans. The problem there apparently is they don't have much of a lounge, just a "small" meeting area/room. Anyway, we'll probably decide the other is there from the Audi (wash your mouth out with carbolic!) or Kangoo van with pgpsw stickers in back windows. _________________ Dennis

0.921 miles to be precise, as I will be using the Mobility shopping trolley (Ford Fusion). I've no chance of walking that distance. Was planning on arriving about 4pm. _________________ Graham.

Where did I get the idea you drove a Ferrari?
That's garaged for the winter now, to much of a handful on wet & icy roads. _________________ Graham.

So you're gonna turn up at the super megga pre-Christmas get together at the Windmill Inn, Four Marks (all welcome, bring your own money) evening of Saturday 8th December wearing a rubbishy Ford ID badge that none of us will recognise? _________________ Dennis

Just thought I'd be first to point out that all of you softies that didn't come to the "super megga pre-Christmas get together" missed out bigtime, so next time we decide to do one of these there should be no excuses.
I personally would like to thank all those who joined us in Alton yesterday, and say I enjoyed it thoroughly. It's good to finally put some faces to those names, although the avatars are a vast improvment in some cases!
p.s. rob - (howard forums) & vip invite

Well, I do feel this merits some small expansion. The hotel was bloody freezing when we arrived and this morning I had to leave in a less than pristine condition due to the hot water being elsewhere (Aaaaard does NOT include cold showers ). The meal at the Inn was "challenging" (my latest set of teeth is not designed for dealing with prawn shells).
BUT I thoroughly enjoyed the get together. If it hadn't been for the other participants, we (Vera and I) would have been quite gruntled. As it was, I too would like to thank all those who came. My avatar doesn't do me justice of course, but the others were all pretty much expecting me to be even more good looking, so they were not disappointed. _________________ Dennis

Likewise, thanks to all that came, unlike Dennis I did have hot water it was only spoiled by the fact that it only came out of 10 of the 50 or so available nozzles. Wasn't to sure about the breakfast, so brought it home with me, packet in a nice little box with handle. My neighbours 12 year old daughter upon seeing it decided it would be more suitable for her lunch tomorrow. Lovely meal and company - a most enjoyable evening.
Note to Dennis please pick somewhere warmer next time so that Emma and I don't have to freeze having a smoke. _________________ Graham.
