funny that they should rename them as that implies they no longer cover northern ireland ;)

I've tried the Use Latest Maps Guarantee and it just tells me I have the latest maps.
If I should have 710 I'll be calling TomTom in the morning or returning it to Amazon in the afternoon.

The v7 maps ARE available to buy, but you can only use the "Latest map guarantee" if you got a "Latest map guarantee" card in the box with your unit.
I think it was only put in with the 520/720 and ONE 3rd edition, I'm afraid. |

There are no restrictions mentioned on the TT website which specifically states that you no longer need a Latest Map Guarantee card and can check your "device" for 30 days from first activation.
My One XL "device" should therefore be included.

I bought a ONE XL on 18th Oct which came with map 675.1409. There was no 'map guarantee' voucher in box and 'Home' tells me that my device came with the latest map and no upgrade is needed.
I've just spoken to a nice lady at TomTom who agreed that I am entitled to map 710. She is going to send me an email to which I must reply with a scan of my proof of purchase and she will arrange for map 710 to be available for download.
This sounds ok so far but if it didn't work I'm still keeping the ONE as map 675 is still a 2007 map and the device works great - I'm really pleased with it. |

OK, so I've just come off the phone with a fairly pleasent chap at TT support. Despite a slightly tortous phone call (he had to keep checking with his supervisor) he has agreed that I am entitled to an upgrade to the latest maps
Like Snudge I have to email proof of purchase (they'll accept a screenshot of my Amazon invoice) and they'll make the maps available on my TT Home account.
Fingers crossed |

Apologies, that does now seem to be the case. I knew TT had stopped asking for the number off the card (as so many didn't work!) but the change of wording seems to be a much wider change of policy.
Typical, us "early adopters" get stuck with the old map though! |

If none of that works, I'll pay closer attention to what I've been doing when I update the rest of the lot on Monday. |
Toneloc427 - Have you managed to figure out how to get the 720's to update yet?
I've got a two week old 720 that currently has version 7.05 maps on it and Home is telling me my maps are up to date.
I've been in e-mail contact with support for 10 days now and still no solution!
Thanks. |

great britain = england, scotland and wales.
uk's full name is "the united kingdom of great britain and northern ireland" i.e. great britain does not include northern ireland ;)

To Bobmoss:
Have you upgraded your TomTom Home Software to version 7.210 (it would not have been on your install CD). If not, then do so first as earlier software versions won't work with the receiving of the latest map guarantee. |

dhn,
I'm pretty sure I'm running the latest version of everything. My versions are:
Home - 2.1.2.121
TomTom application - 7.210
Thanks. |

Please don't confuse matters....As I said in another post earlier today there's no such thing as Home 7.210.
The latest version of HOME that I know of is version 2.1.2.121.
Version 7.xxx is software for the TT units themselves. |

Well, I've just rung TomTom tech support as I was fed up waiting for an e-mail response.
They told me that I am entitled to the update but they are still working on the update for my unit (a 720) because the new update will have Western and Central Europe. They hope to have it done by the end of the week. If it still won't update by Monday I have to give them a call back. |

I've now wrecked two 720's trying to get the map upgrade. Both now have damaged software and will not even boot up properly. I did back-ups on both before starting but the back-ups did not work when I tried to reverse the installation.
The answer from Tom Tom was that I shouldn't have been offered the backup! Now have to take the items back to PC World for replacement and all the arguments that will involve.
Is the Garmin equivalent any better? I have to purchase 30 more GPS for work and am not impressed so far. |

At least you admit YOU have wrecked them. Theres no way that happens doing things sensibly. And its not hard to do a proper backup either. |
