I'm not sure why Mac users who have never used PC's are so evangelistic. PC users who have never used Mac's aren't.

However I can fully understand why converts to Mac are so enthusiastic! I don't use computers to play games, I have an XBox and Wii for that and although I was initially concerned about software availability, I haven't had an issue finding good mac alternatives.

When I upgraded to a MacBook Pro, all that was needed to mirror my install on the MacBook was a firewire cable and 40mins. The Mac asks if you are replacing another Mac and then copies all your apps, mail, favourite web-sites etc including all stored passwords.

Now on a PC that would be an absolute nightmare!

...and for backing up, Time Machine makes something that can be a chore so easy that you WANT to do it.

You can even restore from a Time Machine backup onto a blank hard drive - how many other backup utilities allow you to do that?

a full back up the first time you use it

incremental backups every hour

if you turn your computer off mid-back, it just picks up where it left off the next time

As a test, I backed up a fresh install and then restored it back onto the hard drive - just under 40GB took about 10 minutes, which is quicker than installing from the DVD

I was impressed just reading about this, but now that I've used it I'm majorly impressed - "It does what it says on the tin"

I'd argue that Mac's move to Unix has not made them more complex as far as the user experience is concerned. It does allow you the option to get down and dirty via the terminal if you choose but for the average user it is just as simple and easy to use as ever.

It's obviously a case great minds Laughing

I can assure you that it's worth the wait for Time Machine alone!!

Most of the other features will depend very much upon how you use your computer as to whether you really notice them

My main wants are Spaces (I work on a laptop so screen real estate is always an issue) but I will be getting a 24" iMac for Chrimbo I hope! Time Machine comes a close second and then I'm also hoping that Finder has been improved. Not sure about the cover-flow bit but Finder itself does need a revamp?

I tend to only be using 1 or 2 applications at a time and just flick between them using the dock.

QuickLook also sounds quite good, but I haven't really used it yet.
