Could'nt get the the OS version5 map to open up at all on my O2 Orbit XDA till I realized the map file was too big (625mb). So I made a smaller map segment, transferred it on a card reader and on it's first opening, it opened fine.
Now when I try and open it I get this message :
" Sorry
Ordance Survey license restictions prohibit using this map file with this version of software.
You must use a version of Memory Map specifically designated for the year the map was published."
I've checked for an update on my MM and it says version 5.1.3, which is the latest update.....anybody know whats going on ? |

This error normally occurs when you try to open a 2004 (or earlier) map using vs5 software on the PDA (I get this quite a lot when I don't watch what I am doing on the PC installing maps), are you sure the map section you installed to the device was from a vs5 map?
I would make sure by starting the MM5 software on the PC and try the export visible section again, try a small area to make sure it works then transfer a larger area. Keep the map size down to around 300MB in size and the PDA should work fine - Mike |

Thanks Mike,
I've only just got the software from memory Map and the disk states NORTHERN ENGLAND V5. I've used the route tool and made a square about 5 miles sqare around my house and "send enclosed map to mobile device", but even this small map gives the same message. Do you think I should try and export visible section ? |

No harm in trying the export visible section, The only time I have seen this error is when loading the wrong map from an earlier version and starting MM5 on the PDA, if all you have is MM5 on the PC and PDA then it should simply work - Mike |

Yes, just tried the visible area option and still the same message.
What I can't understand is why it worked first time but not on subsequent openings. |

Remove the Memory Map application from the PDA using the Settings_System Tab remove programs option, then Sync the PDA to the PC via Active Sync and re-install the application to the PDA from the PC - Mike |

That seems strange, but at least you have it working - which operating system have you got on the Orbit is it running WM2005 or WM6?? - Mike |

I think I might know what the problem is. I already have Memory Map Navigator on my PDA with a European Road Atles map. I have been going into MM Navigator and opening the file from there rather than going into MM OS-5 and opening the map from there instead |

Easy done as per my original post, I do this all the time to be honest the stupid OS license restriction force MM into restricting the map to a given version of software.
You can have both MM2004 (or earlier) and MM5 installed to the PC and PDA but you need to remember which map can be opened by any given application, if you are unsure use File Explorer to sort the issue out as you have found - Mike |
