Thanks Vicky, very informative, unfortunately I can see why I can't use the same system now.
Come on the powers that be, give us a free to air system that works like on the continent. Rant over. _________________ Mike

Even on the continent it's not free. There are some free services on limited parts of the Autoroute network in France but the service that is most trusted is commercial like ours. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Wonder if they will ever decide to offer the new mounts for the x980t. The software on the GPS units are just the same. The x980t is also going to be upgradable to the version 7 software which looks to improve things a lot.
The screen on the x970t does look small and I think the x980t is much better as if you don't need the 'pac man' style view you can turn it off and get an even bigger view.
Even without a different aerial the TMC in my x980t has always faired better than my old Navman. For which I had to pay an extra £120 for a system which hardly worked at least when it's included you don't feel quite so cheated. |

That's not a bad shout jonandmarkuk.
If we can have the same mount then it might be possible.
I don't hold out much hope from customer support though, since I won my X980T on here, I've been trying to get some proof of purchase for my device in order to apply for the free map upgrade, and to ensure future support. It's gone on so long now that the 90 days has expired, the original customer service agent has left and I'm having to start all over again. _________________ Mike

There is NO TMC Connector on the 970 at all only on the mount |
There is a TMC connector, its on the back of the unit not underneath |

There is a similar looking TMC connector on the back of the X980T itself. I checked the ViaMichelin Website and saw that the X970T ariel is listed as an Accessory under the X970T Product page but there is no price or description yet. I wonder would it be compatible with the X980T and will they offer it for sale. _________________ ViaMichelin X-980T

We had a little discussion about the new type fitting the 980 earlier in this thread and we concluded it wouldn't work.
I think you'll find that the connector on the back is for an external GPS aerial. _________________ Mike
