Unfortunately, Sunday 28th March 2004 isn’t a good date for me. Crying or Very sad There’s only a very slim chance that I can make it and I would only be able to decide on the actual morning of the 28th. Sad

However, if I don’t make the inaugural PocketGPS World pub meet, I hope that the rest of you folks have a great time. 8)

BTW, did you know that BST starts that day so everybody loses an hour’s sleep? And no, that isn’t the reason why I probably won’t be able to attend! Wink

Here’s the link to the dti’s BST website.

Regards,

Well, my iPAQ arrived on Wednesday, and it's rarely been out of my hands! 8O Rolling Eyes :D So, I'm really looking fwd to a meet to find out more about it cos I know I've barely scratched the surface of what it can do! (And I've actually done quite a bit!)

I suggest also if anyone wants to see any specific hardware or software Wink to let me know and I'll see what I can do about bringing it along!

Sounds like a plan, Darren! :D

Dave, I've yet to get any GPS stuff, but from what I've seen on the web I'd be interested in seeing the Haicom CF/Mouse receiver as well as Tom Tom. (At the mo they look like the combo I'd go for.) So I guess anything you think is better I'd be interested in! :D

Ok we have a location for next Sunday's meet-up Laughing The venue is the Poachers Arms, Alton Road (B3349), South Warnborough, Hampshire. I have prepared a zip file containing the written directions for those of you still using paper maps Wink as well as a TomTom POI file containing the location and for anyone who needs it, the Lat/Lon reference as well. You can download the .zip file here. For quick reference it is M3 Junction 5, head south on A287, AT first roundabout take 3rd exit on to B3349 and follow past RAF Odiham until you reach South Warnborough. Total distance from M3 is just under 4 miles.

We plant to get there for 12.30 on Sunday (28th March) and all who wish to join us are welcome. Just in case there is any doubt, we aren't able to offer complimentary food or drink but the bar has a decent menu so for anyone wishing to eat you won't starve but do bring your wallets!

We will bring along a wide range of GPS receivers, jackets etc, you can see Brodit mounts and I shall be able to demonstrate MS Smartphone running Mapopolis Beta.

Nice one...

First round's on you then, Richard! Wink Wink

Only joking!! Mr. Green

Are we all going to be wearing name tags with our screen names and real names on? Joker

Should be a good day, and certainly a very informative one looking at all the different bits of kit. The pub looks/sounds nice as well.

Thanks for the POI containing the location of the pub Darren - very useful. Also, 12:30 is a very good time as it would take us a couple of hours to get there, so it means we don't have to get up TOO early on a Sunday!! Thumbs Up

Look forward to hopefully seeing everyone there.

Bo Peep.

Actually that might not be a bad idea, I think we'll all spot Richard if that's his real photo, but some people it will be hard to distinguish when they give out their real name as Matt or Mark.

We hope so, not sure how long it will go on for, I guess it's going to be difficult for most to drink and drive but we'll try to bring as much kit as we can carry (within reason) and try to answer everyone's questions!

From a kit point of view, I'll probably bring along a couple of iPAQ 2210's (my main workforce with my apps installed), maybe a Tungsten T2, couple of Bluetooth and CF cards (inc Haicom 303MMF), and two Leadtek mice which are permanently installed in-car.

Good thinking there, Bo Peep, to get nametags. I can see either Dave or Darren rushing down to their local Stationers to get marker pens and sticky labels for the meeting! Thumbs Up

I hope to attend the meeting, although it’s still not certain. However if I can make it then I’d like to see as much different equipment to what I’m running. So here’s a list, I’ve quickly compiled, of hardware and software that I’d like to have a look at. It’s a wish list so don’t worry if nobody out there has access to all of it. ;-)

Hardware
HP iPAQs (1940, 2210, 4150, 5550)
EMTAC BT GPS
Fortuna GPSmart
GlobalSat BT GPS
TomTom BT GPS

PPC Software
TTNav3 (plus European maps)
Navman SmartST Pro V2
PowerLOC Destinator 3
Fugawi
Memory-map
OziExplorer
TrafCam

It goes without saying that if anybody is interested in any software or hardware that I’ve got then I’ll demonstrate it. Please see my signature for current set-up. Smile

Regards,
