Does anyone have an official answer as to the accuracy of projected Google Earth lat & longs versus reality Question

Aside from poor PDOP issues & geometry problems - does anyone know say for somewhere in the middle of the UK whether Google Earth yields a diferrent position to any significant degree ........?

This is perhaps different to Google Maps which work on a more accurate representation of the ground

example :-

* I pick off a lat/long from GE of where I know a camera is and .......
* I then get a decent fix beside the point with a tomtom ( say on foot for arguments sake i.e proximity to the camera without being in the car)

Is the bust going to be 5, 10, 20 metres ?

It depends on a multitude of things but wondered if anyone had looked into this ?

Check out the bust between the Greenwich meridian and the observatory for instance on GE - quite scary !!!

Cheers
Calum

Don't know the answer to the 'bust' - but the difference between the Prime Meridian at Greenwich and 0 Deg in WGS84 is true. When WGS 84 was adopted for satellite nav systems it used a different projection of the prime meridian plane (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prime_Meridian for details). This places 0 deg lat (WGS84) approx 102 metres East of the Greenwich PM line.
