Hi,

I'm designing a product using GPS and need to mock up 'proof of concept'.

I have very little computing experience (a mech eng degree!)

I have a SiRF III Bluetooth GPS and a bluetooth dongle for my computer and the computer's found the GPS, great!

Now I'd really like to just see the datastream from the GPS.

But how?

Is there an application for this without needing programming platforms, or even just a way in windows of seeing what the com port receives?

Gail

Within Windows, HyperTerminal will do the trick ...
(Start-Programs-Accessories-Communications-HyperTerminal)

Run up the BT control application on the PC,
Search for local devices ( and hence find the BT GPS),
Pair the PC with the BT GPS ( you will need the BT GPS's Pin ! ),
Connect the PC to the SPP Service offered by the BT GPS
(this being the Serial Port Profile)

Note the Outgoing Com Port that is reported when you connect to the Bt GPS - we will call this Com Y.

Run up HyperTerminal - set port settings to
ComY, 4800, 8, n ,1 , no hardware handshaking

Hopefully, you should now see the NMEA data appearing on the HyperTerminal screen ....

Or Google for an app such as Winfast Navigator.
