Hi,
Whilst I've now had a clean DL for 2 years now..I was on TEN points for 3 years. (that said I may have been caught out..over Easter..just after dropping off some Nav data for a moderator in Blackpool!!)
6 Years back I was flashed by a Gatso, one Autumn Sunday morning..on the M6 in Cheshire. 60 mph, in a 50 limit (road works).
I took the £30 fine & the 3 points. BUT whilst it was ME driving in MY car, above the posted limit...I wasn't there!!! I was told by a Traffic cop a few months later that I should have fought the case..as it would've been kicked out of court.
Anyone care to guess why??
Cheers

Well..........
It was a Sunday....when the clocks were put back to GMT.
It was quite an old Gatso...
Gatso's (then) did not allow for GMT/BST switch over (according to the Traffic cop...who was showing me a video of me 'making progress' above the posted limit..a few months later)
I didn't bother fighting it (at the time) as my DL was totally clean....3 days later I got flashed again (near my home) & was hit with another £30.00 & 3 points.
Fixed penalties have been applied for at least 5 years, I can testify that!!
I have considered that the Traffic Cop may have been taking the P a little & just wanted me to feel even worse!! |

Hi,
...was in a meeting when I & posted my reply...did a typo.
Sorry
Just found my DL.
Convicting Court Code:1173. (I assume this is in Cheshire).
Offence CodeSP50.
Date of offence....................29/10/00.
Other "FP" (Fixed Penalty)
Penalty Points 3
Gatsos have been around for a year or two before.
Surely we have a plod or two on the Forum who can verify if I was being wound up??!!
Cheers

They came in in the 50's (mainly for parking offences). The Road & Traffic Act (1991) resulted in them later being used for offences such as speeding.
They are also known as a "Mitigated Penalty"-...
aah..the wonders of the tinternet!!
Cheers

Hardly!! :D :D
Anyhow, I hope no-one on the forum thinks I'm bulling...I find it hard to believe that the Gatso producers hadn't allowed for the switch to BST to GMT too.....but I'm here to tell the tale.
Here's another anecdote for you....my bestest buddy was being driven (in a Skoda Super Estelle{Orange!!) ,by his sister) through Accrington one night after a boozy do!
Plod pulls them over & asked my mate what was in the boot! He can be a beligerent when popped up & told plod "a bloody engine"! Plod explained to him that he should cooperate & asked him to open the boot!
Guess what was in the boot?? |

Well then i missed the point of the tale then... I thought the point was the clock in the GATSO hadn't changed and so it showed YOU speeding but at a time you weren't there?
If so then the story is the same because the kid was blamed for a call he didn't make because the clock wasn't corrected and was wrongly attributed to a call he made an hour earlier....
If not, can you please explain what the point was in your tale?

b) 17 illegal immigrants?? |

Apologies...I meant to say that (whilst my experience was very traumatic) it wasn't as bad as the one you highlighted!! :D
Anyhow, back to the story...sorry both a) & b) are incorrect BUT still an good try.
As my mate told Plod at the time..."a bl**dy engine"
The 'super' estelle's 'engine' was in the boot.
In all seriousness it was a riot to drive in the snow..skodas used to be cracking ralley cars...prior to the quattro etc etc.
Cheers DN |

Nope..it's a case of "look at what you could've won!"
Besides..it'll be a few years of global warming/polar ice caps melting & all that bull before your area becomes Carshalton Beaches... :D |
