|
|
hi is there anyone out there with any help with my tt710 as its driving me nutts!!
here is the following email of what has happened (i sent this to tom tom this morning)
"hello, hope you can help, my tom tom 710 wouldn't switch on on Thursday, I
looked on the site when I got home from work and saw that there was a reset
button which I pressed and that seemed to start it working but still was not
switching on every time so I decide to connect the tom tom to the docking
unit and pc and download any updates, I made a back up as the tom tom home
advised me and then down loaded the updates and installed them , then I
removed the tom tom from the docking unit and switched on only to be greeted
with the tom tom screen showing the sd card and red cross being drawn
across it, i tried to install the backup file that I had made and it would
not do , so im guessing that the backup i have made has corrupted files on
it, I have a spare sd card the I have for my camera so I formatted that and
tried to put the backup on that , it loaded my backup on to it but it had
the same result the screen showing the red cross on the sd card, I phoned
your helpline (0845 161 00 09) on Friday morning and was advised that the
sd card was corrupted but I could put the map , zip and voice files from the
backup I made and put them on a new sd card, when I connect to tom tom home
it will load the applications and the tom tom will work, I did as instructed
and loaded the above files on to the new sd card and installed the new
applications and now the tom tom either switches it self off or shows a
screen saying no maps found, also it says updating new gps firmware, I also
tried to connect and explore tom tom from tom tom home and got a message
saying " navigator failed to initialise CODE-20" I do not have the software
version as I cant access to sd card, any help on resolving this matter would
be great as I (have been) using the tom tom daily for work (im a service
engineer for technogym) and cover 1000 miles a week and I am really lost
with out it, hope to hear soon, cheers and many thanks for your time Steve"
and as to a update i saw on your site that to hold the reset button for 30 seconds so i have done this and the switching itself off has stopped but it comes up with the legal notice which i hit i agree then i get no maps found?????
but there are maps on the sd card
any help would be great as im running out of hair to pull out

Put the card into the device and switch it on, connect it to the computer and answer yes when prompted for PC connection on the TomTom screen.
If TomTom Home starts up let it check for updates then either minimise the application or exit TomTom Home on the PC. Start Windows Explorer and look at the drive letters listed C is your Hard Drive, D is probably the CD/ DVD dvive, look for a drive called TomTom (it should even have an icon resempling the TomTom unit) click this.
Now look at the folders listed, is there a map folder it will be named something like Western_Europe - right click that and select "Properties" what is the folder file size? - at least this will establish if the folder structure / size is correct - Mike |

Try reformating the card again and then reinstall it all again from your backup make sure that in explora under tools/ folder options/ view/ tick the box to show hidden files and folders and also untick the box that says hide extensions for known file types and see if that works |

That would appear correct for a TomTom Go-510, are you 100% sure you bought a 710 or did you just read the 710 number from the underside of the device? - only the map type installed changes between the two models.
What happens when you view the original TomTom card? and when inserted to the device what does it do after you try a 30 second reset? - Mike |

Just another thought - can you compare your memory card contents with the first screen capture I posted yesterday, which was actually from a 510 memory card, the image can be found by clicking Here - is there any obvious difference you can tell - Mike |

doh! you're right it IS a 510 - i've got my a*se where my head is today and my head where my a*se should be
it wont let me view the original tomtom card, it wont read it nor will my pc card reader.
after a 30 second reset it still comes up saying no maps found |

In which case format the card and re-install the back-up, the unit could be rejecting the other card you are trying to use because it is not fast enough - Mike |

Have you tried wiping the original card and re-installing your back-up via TT Home?
About the only folder I don't recognise is the .Trashes
And the only file is .DS_Store

Can you view the actual card from Windows Explorer as a drive letter, then right click on it and select Format - this will wipe the card and should then allow your back-up on to the card - Mike |

if i put the original TT card in the TT it comes up as drive J but when i go to format it says there is no disk, insert a disk and try again. if i double click on the drive it just says insert disk |
