Hi eire05, welcome to the new Drivesmart members home base. Welcome

Since DS shut down their forum (reason unknown) a lot of us have now moved here and PGPSW have kindly given us our own corner.
I know you were a big contributor to the DS forum well before me, so i hope you stay with us here.

What was the Defender 2? I've got a DS gathering dust now and I have one of the laser detector add-on units that I never got around to fitting, was the Defender 2 the laser defeating device?

it was the "laser defeating" device that didn't actually defeat laser, very temperamental unit, full of EMI problems, Produces the E07 (JAM Code) on the LTI guns!!! , Punches through all over the place, Condensation getting into the head!! The list is endless, Unit was returned to base and replaced, the only other 2 people i'm aware of buying there units broke as well as mine, as well as the people who still haven't got the parking sensor software ,not to mention those who never seemed to get their EMI issues solved

I've a LTI 20-20 Marksman & its the def2 very poor performer indeed. I only brought the gun as i was convinced the defender2 wasn't up to much.

E07!!! Jammer code. if i had produced that id have my car impounded and taken to court, not something i really want on the front of my car

Yeah id say they lost an arm & a leg on that project, sure look @ my youtube videos, There a bit shaky as its hard to film through the HUD of a marksman without a tripod

Just joining this thread cos we have a DS unit, that itself isn't a bad box to have on the dash, it was the vapourware they were trying to produce which I think got them into trouble.

Drivesmart had a peculiar attitude towards their customer; they didn’t like criticism but shifted loads on to their competition. On some of the USA GPS & radar sites they constantly argued with forum members to the point they got over the top offensive and the American’s accused them of being full of BS with threats going back and forth across the pond.

I think they set their sites high, with too much ambition; they might have had the technical knowledge but were too arrogant and tried to run before they could walk. However the DS GPS unit is a good tool despite looking like a taxi meter and for that I hope one day DS can prove us all wrong and come out with something else revolutionary particularly the promised HUD unit – which if it worked would really put them on the map.

They have been accused of trying to bring out a product using reverse engineering, who knows whether that is true, only time will tell.

They certainly don’t respect their customers, won’t answer the phone, occasionally answer e-mails, then don’t give you the answer to your original question, treating any reported faults on their equipment as a personal slur ignoring the word “support” – this isn’t the way to run a Company in 2007, how they escaped Trading Standards I don’t know.

Now some of the product owners are re-based here on this forum, hopefully we will be able to keep the units going and be able to add our own software and help each other, hopefully learning in the process, please join us – KEEP WATCHING THIS SPACE.

As I said before on the DS forum. Where I feel they went wrong was that they marketed the DEF2 before it was fully developed so therefore got it wrong and caused themselves more harm than good. Because they couldn't resolve the issues they decided to replace it with a more basic system in the laser star ( is this what they called it ?). Instead what they should have done was go back to what they were good at, the DS unit. Redeveloped it with a HUD and made it look a bit more stylish. Then when this was up and running and selling well, ie, giving them a decent income. Then they could have looked at progressing further in when they had more time to do so. Instead, as you quoted, they decided to run before they had even got out of the pram.

Lets hope that seeing as Neil was the real force behind DS he may find some contacts who can set up a competitor to them.

I would use the Forum for info only on the DS product.

If they do re-instate members access its not worth going back, most of the DS users have now moved here, where the forum staff and members are FAR more friendly.

I probally got everyone cut off as i was the first to leave a message on there when it came back on, all i did was ask as to why the DS team had ignored us for nearly two months and not even answered the phone or e-mail (as stated by DS owners here) and they cut the entire thread off within the hour, and stopped all contact to the forum.

This censorship is their normal practice, I would stay with your friends here and ignore them.

Seriously, we’re glad that you like it here and hope that you’ll stay here. Thumbs Up

Have you had a chance to try the new Drive-Smart format of the latest PocketGPSWorld camera database, as mentioned here?
