I used TomTom on my Dell Axim x50v yesterday for a long drive, after a while though the program just kept on closing down with no warning and the device would return to the menu screen.
At first we thought it was because i had the heaters on in the car and it was affecting the dell, but we moved it on the windscreen(out of the heat) and it just kept happening.
It got to a point where as soon as we opened TomTom up again it would close back down.
I have a wired receiver like this http://www.solware.co.uk/2005-images/polstar-gps-mouse-large.jpg i dont think it was anything to do with the signal (though the weather was not good yesterday). But would a problem with the signal make the whole program shut down?
I'm really confused about this and want to get it sorted so i can use it again at the weekend safe in the knowledge that i'll be able to see where i have to go.
Thanks for any help you may give |

I take it a soft reset didn't make any difference?
Cheers,
Steve. |

You've not got the AXIM set up to power down after a certain period have you? It can do this even when on external power. Check the power/battery settings on the AXIM both on external power and battery.
I run TT6 on an X51v and had the same problem when the AXIM was new. _________________ Phil |

Thanks for the replies! Oh i forgot to mention its TT5.
Firstly soft reset didnt work...i did have to do this a couple of times because the screen kept on freezing when TT was running.
I did have the pda set to power down after 3 minutes, ive turned that off now to see if it helps. But it was only the TT software that closed down not the actual machine...would it have made a difference?
Its just baffled me that TT kept turning off. I have left the program running with it beside me here and it stays on. It only turns off when navigating with the receiver! |

I take it you are using v5.21 (I think that was the last v5 release)? Previous versions weren't as stable using Bluetooth if memory serves. Are you using a Bluetooth GPS receiver?
Cheers,
Steve. |

I looked at the version on TT and it says its "5.000 (4890)"
I'm using a wired receiver like the one in the link in my first post. |

Update the software to version 5,21 IIRC there was a bug with certain "releases" of TomTom Navigator 5,0 that caused a shutdown of the application on VGA devices, or was it down to Bluetooth - eitherway the update is free from the TomTom web site - Mike |

:D I hadnt thought that updating might solve the problem. I have got a newer version of TT now and took it out for a little drive to see whether it would work for the long drive tomorrow...So good so far!
Thanks for your help! |

Turn off POI.
I had the same problem with TT5 on my iPaq. Now I've upgraded to TT6, it's fine. Seems to be a common problem |
