|
|
I've just downloaded and installed the up to date map for UK & Ireland.
Step 6 of the install instructions say...."Finally, when you start the TomTom application on your device, it will tell you how to activate your map."
When I start tom tom nothing happens to prompt me to activate the new map. It is still using the original GB map. When I go to the "Change Map" menu, it still only lists my original maps - the hew one is not shown.
Anyone have any suggestions of what I may be doing wrong or how I might resolve the problem?
Thanks |

Are you sure that the new map is not installed? You shouldn't have to use "Change Maps" it should have overwritten the original one.
Tap the screen, then "Change preferences" keep tapping the arrow on the screen until you come to "show version".
The App version should be 5.210 (5431). The map should be v660.
Those are the updated maps for TT5.

Well - I assumed the map had been installed as I can see that it is present on the SD card. However, under "show version" the app is 5.210 but the map is "Great_Britain-Map v562".
I'll try re-installing it. |

In that case you are correct. It has not installed.
Presuming that you saved the map somewhere on your computer before you installed it. I would suggest hooking up your pda again so that Active Synch is working, then try installing it again, see if you have any success a second time.

Ok - I've just re-installed it but it is still not working. Still shows the old map version. Any other suggestions? |

Obviously something is not happening correctly. Have you saved the map you purchased from the Tomtom site?. It should be in a zip format.
Once you have that and the pda is connected it won't actually open and install onto a pc and will specifically look for a pda to install into.
Talk me through the steps you are taking to install the new maps.

I am also having troubles with Nav5 not seeing the new map on an iPAQ 3715. I purchased Western Europe map (v660) from TomTom website using TomTom Home. It recognised my account and other earlier maps I had bought. It downloaded the map (including copies of the earlier maps as well). I then used TomTom Home to install on card via Activesynch. It all seemed to work (very slow of course). The files all seem to be on the card in a new folder called "Western Europe".
BUT NAV5 only sees the maps that were on the card previously (4 of them). The new map does not show under "Change maps".
The actual downloaded file is a cab file not a zip but all the files seem to have transferred to the card. What does TomTom look for to identify a map that is present? The folder name doesn't include the word "Map" like the other folders. I have tried renaming it to the same format as previous maps but it had no effect.

If you are using TT5 you shouldnt have been using TomTomHome for the download.
The sequence on the TomTom site should be
You select Plus services from the tabs at the top pf the page.
You then select maps
Then buy now
When you select model you should be selecting Navigator 5
On select your PDA/mobile device you should be selecting "other" if you are just upgrading TT5 to the new maps, in which case you then get the download page without involving TomTom Home.
If your PDA is on the compatable list then you wouldnt be selecting "other" you would select your PDA.
You are then taken to the TT6 map download page
Once you have purchased the map it will take you to TomTom Home to begin the download.

I asked TomTom about the confusing message on their site about MUST use Home and not compatible with Nav 5. Answer I got was
"Tom Tom HOME will be used to install the map on your SD card. However, as a Navigator 5 user, you will not be able to use all the features of Tom Tom HOME. You will need to have Navigator 6 for this."
So I used Home to buy the map as well; the TomTom site knew exactly what iPAQ I had and allocated installation code etc. It didn't include Nav 6 update as part of download. So if I am supposed to use Home to install the files, why doesn't it work?
Anyway I can't go back and try again because I've paid for it. TomTom Home lists the maps included on my SD card and has the new Western Europe map in its list as well as all the POI files, voices etc on the card. So it gives every appearance that it thinks it has worked. Just doesn't show in the list of maps. |

I downloaded the exe file to my desktop.
Connected the PDA (Orange SPV M100) to my desktop using USB cable.
Connection is via a guest partnership using Activesync 4.2
I then double click the downloaded exe file and follow the instructions, installing it to the SD card. At the end of the process the setup software say something like install successful. I then select quit.
Ive done this twice now - but still no cigar. |

The compatible map for v5.21 needs to be v660.1223. AFAIK. |
The pna file contains.....
ID=UK_and_IE_plus_major_roads_of_WE.pna
1806987515
660
build=1223
id=57096 |

When you say it doesnt show in the list of maps, what exactly do you mean by that? If you have upgraded TT5.21 to v660 map it will overwrite the original map. Do you have more than one map on your card? When you go into "show version" on your device what is the version number of the map?

The previous maps were individual maps for the various European countries not one seamless map. So I wouldn't expect them to be overwritten as they have different names.
The maps it shows as present in the change maps dialogue are Great Britain Plus and Iberia Plus and 2 City maps which were all on the card when I did the install. The new seamless Western Europe map isn't listed. (As I mentioned TomTom Home thinks it's there when it lists all the contents.)
All the earlier maps still work OK.
As an addition the Netherlands Postal Codes which seem to have been downloaded at the same time have been installed and if I select navigate to postcode, I have to select which set of postcodes I want to use. (That didn't happen before the update.)
There are a number of other posts on the forum with various other map updates such as Australia not showing as well. I posted in this thread rather than a new one in case there was a common cause with new maps not showing up.
