Looking at the back of the Rider, the second contact from the left is the one that senses whether the Rider is in the docking shoe. If you tape over that contact it will stop the Rider thinking it has been removed from the shoe when it momentarily loses contact and switching itself off.

Another advantage, for me anyway, is that it stops the Rider going into that annoying ride mode when the menu options are severely restricted.

After blanking this contact does the rider still charge from the bike ?

Well, yes, sort of. :D

The Rider is designed to switch off automatically when it is taken out of the dock and that second contact is purely to sense the presence of the dock. This is what is happening to you, contact on that pin is lost and your Rider thinks it has been taken out and switches itself off, exactly as it is supposed to. By blanking number two the Rider thinks it is running on internal battery all the time and just carries on running.

Charging is done by two of the other connections (I forget which ones) and is not affected by pin 2. Therefore, provided those other pins are connecting then your Rider charges, but, if not, then it doesn't.

In my case charging is intermittent, but at least my Rider doesn't keep switching off when contact is lost.

Should have my docking shoe back tomorrow or Friday will post here with my findings, fixed or not. Have a heavy weekend planed so it might be early next week.

Docking shoe fitted and after a 1hr test ride all worked perfectly. Upgraded to the latest ver.6.52 and my rider now finds my phone and the bluetooth headset much faster, also it only auto powers on with the ignition switch and not off, I find this better. If all stays as is I will be more than delighted with the performance of the rider.

I am looking forward to receiving my new docking shoe with a bit more confidence now.
