Sorry if this has been suggested before or if its already incorporated (I did look but couldn't find a post)

Each of the police forces are obliged to require the publication ahead of time of the location of mobile enforcement units (known to you and me as speed traps).
These are is places on the internet such as:

http://www.safe2travel.co.uk/cameras/mobilecameras.asp
http://www.safecam.org.uk/MobileCameras/index.aspx
http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/Web/corporate/pages.nsf/Links/73EECD94E024E36580256BAC0051315F
http://www.eastriding.gov.uk/safetycamerapartnership/sites/locations.html

(A google search for mobile enforcement locations or mobile enforcement units usually elicits the webpages concerned - and the police have to tell you if you ask anyway).

Could these be incorporated into the speed database?

Yes - Beat the Speed Trap (who also produce the BTST machines) are already doing this. I was in a colleagues car fitted with this at the weekend when the alarm went off. My wife driving in the car behind would have been nicked relying on the TomTom alerts alone if it wasn't for us slowing down.

(Now all we need is 1) a laser detector for the police cars sitting on the side of a motorway and 2) a number plate recognition system and database of the number plates of all unmarked police cars. [The numbers must be available under FOI as it would allow you to know if an unmarked car trying to pull you over is a genuine police car or not :-) ]

Surely the data is useless.

They all have a caveat that they may be at the following locations at some time, but then again they may be off elsewhere if they want to.

As the locations generally get into the database I'd say you were better off with that. Mind you when they abandon a location it stays in the DB and you keep slowing down for it. Confused

probably classed as sensitive data and would be exempt from the FOIA. it would scupper any under cover operations involving unmarked vehicals.
