|
|
I have been trying to download the full POI zip file from www.MaFt.co.uk, but having saved it to my pc I can't open it as it says the file is corrupted. I've tried opening the file directly on the site and got the same result. What am I doing wrong? please advise.
Cheers,
Wooly |

Not sure what it is you're doing wrong, but I just tried this myself (your link is bad btw) from Here and unzipped this just fine.
Suggest trying again, making sure you delete the file you downloaded b4, or save to another location.

I had the right link - not sure why it hasn't appeared ok. I've revisited the site and still have the same problem i.e. "the compressed (zipped) folder is invalid or corrupted". Could it be a problem with the office firwewall? |

If you want, pm me with an email address to send the zip to.
btw your link was 'www.MaFt.co.uk/,' rather than 'www.MaFt.co.uk/garmin' _________________ Garmin i3 gone (sold on eBay)

Is your friend also on Freeserve? I know some of the big ISPs cache downloads like this, so once there is a corrupt version in the ISP's cache, everyone gets the same corrupted file. If you wait until tomorrow, you may well find it works fine. |

Thanks Swing and the other guys, I've just tried from home and it's downloaded ok. All I need now is to work out how to add it to the existing files - tomorrow's challenge! |

You need to put all the files into the same directory as your current installed POI files, and then re run POI Loader to upload all of them.
If you simply upload these new POIs, the program will delete all of your existing POIs.
So, if you are trying to combine a speed camera database with MaFt's POI file - stick all the files in a common directory and upload everything in one go.
Oh, and it'll take a while - PGPSW camera database (through Ash's utility) and MaFt's POI files add up to nearly 50,000 POIs to upload, which will take a minute or two - it will look like POI Loader has hung - just leave it be, and it'll be fine. |

Thanks Swing. I've put all the fiels into my Garmin POI folder (same as the cameras) and truied to use POI Loader but got a message saying the unit doesn't have enough memory. Am I right that I need to direct it to place the files on the memory card instead? Can you tell me how I do that please? |

Either:
1. When you start up POI Loader and it comes up with the Find Device screen - the drop down box should have both the C310 and the SD card listed to allow you to select the other.
2. Use an SD card reader, so that only the SD card is available and then POI Loader will happily use that.
I think some of the Garmin models only support option 2 if the internal memory does not have enough room. |

POI Loader doesn't give me a drop down option, it just tries to load immediately to the Garmin. I've now put the SD card into the PC and it has 2 files in a Garmin folder - 1 called gmappsupp.img the other gmappsupp.unl (the latter is only 1kb, so is probably irrelevant). Are you saying that I should copy the entire Garmin POI folder contents (cameras and POI's) that I hold on my PC onto the SD card on a copy and paste basis? Do I need to create a folder on the SD card first? Sorry to ask so many questions! |

Morning Wooly,
What you do here is put the SD card into the pc, i.e. the same way you did when you were reading the contents of it, and run POILoader.
When you do this you will no-longer see the Garmin unit listed (as you should no-longer have this plugged in), but you will see the SD card listed as a drive letter.
Carry on with the POILoader wizard, then plug the SD card back into the Garmin unit and the safety cameras should now be there. _________________ Garmin i3 gone (sold on eBay)

Morning Graham. Thanks for that. I've done what you said and it's put them on the card as a gpi file. How do I check this has worked? For example, one of the files is supposed to say where Aldi's branches are, but I've keyed Aldi into the spelling section of the Garmin and it's only finding things like Spalding, Garibaldi Sports Centre, Cafeteria Royaldine -not Aldi branches. Same situiation with Argos, which were also inthe download.
I'm indoors at the moment, so the unit isn't finding satellites anyway - is that the reason it's not finding the branches, or is it that the unit is looking at the database in the internal memory rather than the SD card? |

Go to Favourites and then Custom POIs and you should find them there. |
