The courts will no longer deal with low-level motoring offences such as speeding, the lord chancellor has announced:

Oh dear Sad

So no change, then.

There's been a move for quite some time to get low-level offences dealt with by the Fixed Penalty route - whether that be speeding, parking infringements, or anti-social behaviour (Penalty Notices for Disorder). Frees up police and court time, offences disposed quickly but with a recourse to the Courts should the defendant require it.

This isn't anything new - I'm surprised that anyone's surprised.

Yes, there is no surprise, no trial means bigger profits!

Errrr, for whom? How does that work in practise? I wasn't aware that the court system is intended to make profits. Could be a good idea, tho'.

Gissa clue.

I thought the whole basis of law is to make money!

What I mean is that if a speeding case goes to court, it costs money. If it’s dealt with directly it raises revenue.
