I uploaded European maps from Select V7 to my Quest1 and the following message came up:
"detail maps don't support routing - OK?"

I now have difficulty getting it to find minor road routes from A - B, it wants to send me by major roads.

getting panicky - leaving for a big euro trip tomorrow 8O

Thanks in anticipation............

Re-load the maps but this time tick the box that says "Include route calculation data". Wink

Have a good trip. 8)

If Skippy's suggestion does not work then the mapping has not transferred and you are being routed on the basemap - let us know what happens

It could also be that the route you are planning doesn't have full map coverage for the entire route and it's trying to use the basemap for the bits where the maps are missing.

Skippy.....I don't have the V7 on this PC (damaged disk and can't reload removed maps - it's a long story....) but have V7 loaded at work. I haven't loaded any routes - just uploaded the maps of the areas I'm visiting (around 220 mb) and the info message came up about the "detail maps etc."

Now tired and confused. I'll reload the maps tomorrow - I can recall when I uploaded them the only option to tick in "Send to Device"was "Maps" the other 3 tick boxes were persent but not selectable (RE. page 49 in the Mapsource manual) Confused

Yes Kritou, I just loaded a known "B" road route and it has drawn out what appears to be a basemap route which very roughly follows the roads but still takes me 3 sides of a square rather than the known route from a to b, if that makes sense

When you zoom out to, say, the 80 mi scale can you see the grey straight lines that are the edges of the individual map tiles?

That would be because the particular MapSource file you had open contained maps but no waypoints, routes or tracks

If you are prepared to wait for an operator call Garmin on 01794 519944 and they will sort you out

You can pm me today with a telephone number and I'll get back to you with any of my limited and amateur help

Dandywarhol has solved this problem with the ever present help of Garmin Customer Support in Romsey and this forum. Skippy's suggestion that it was a failure to tick the "Include Route Calculation Data" was correct. Our intrepid voyager wishes to say "thank you" from the bottom of his heart and the bar on the ferry from Leith to the Continent

Thanks for that Kritou....had a great trip, down to Venice via the Stelvio Pass then the ferry to Corfu. 3 days there and back home over nearly 4 weeks via Thessaloniki, Bulgaria, Romania (over the Carpathians by the Transfaragasan Pass at 2044 metres with snow piled high by the roadside to Transylvania, Hungary, Slovakia (High Tatra Mtns), Poland and Czech Rep.
Home through europe by Germany and Belgium.

All in all 15 countries and 15 different languages............bit of a when some of them are in Slav/Russian script!!! but a great trip. Only problem was wearing through the rear brake pads on the Yamaha by the time we got to Slovakia - a lot of rear brake down the apls methinks!
Anyone needing any travel advice are welcome to contact me
