May database released but no RSS notification at the time of this post. No big deal, just making the team aware of a possible oversight. |

As I can't get RSS working (and don't really want to, to be honest), I would find it really handy if the PocketGPSW team would just put an "Announcement" post on here when the new versions come out.
(Especially if/when they start appearing other than monthly). |

Im sure we could get it running if you change your mind, but I agree email notification would be effective for subscribers. It would benefit all. Users to update ASAP, the Team to get revenue ASAP. |

I think you DO get email notification if you have subscribed to their newsletter....
Sure they USED to mention it on this forum, or maybe it was just done by other punters?
As for RSS, I think I'm stuffed because you need to access RSS via a news server? Don't have one at work.
Also I'm still using Netscape 7.2 'cos I like the integrated Browser and Mail (which Firefox and Thunderbird weren't last time I looked) and hate I.E. so that bit at least is my fault! |

Missed that Andy, I will subscribe to the newsletter.
Try Feedreader (freeware), a standalone app that only needs an internet connection.

Probably not compatable. The .php extension (instead of the .xml standard) used by PGPSW doesnt seem to be supported by browser based readers. |

Ah well - it seemed like a good idea, and MyYahoo works with every other feed I throw at it.
Shame

I take it you are better now Mike.
New database out, notified by RSS 12:54.
Working perfectly. |

Is someone messing with certain postings?
Whilst feeds from all other sites work fine, on different systems with different readers, PGPSW occcasionally and randomly throws back posts several days old.
Its as if someone with access to edit is going into certain posts and then just backing out (no obvious editing done and no notification of, but the RSS is sent out again).
This is a big, buisy ond somewhat clunky site as it is without compounding things! |

I have just added the Speed Camera database update RSS feed (http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/speed-camera-rss.php) to my feed reader. It didn't like it, so I used the validator at http://feedvalidator.org. The feed failed to validate. The reason is that the item elements describing the various updates are outside the channel element - i.e. they come after the /channel tag, and thus are not processed.
Cheers,
Nigel |

Any movement on fixing this? Things like the speed camera database are practically made for RSS validation... at the moment the feed isn't valid RSS & I'm not changing my reader for just this one feed.. |

Gents, I have asked Mike to investigate the RSS issues but in the meantime, if you 'watch' this topic you will be notiofied when new releases of the database are available.
FWIW I use Firefox for RSS and can read them without issue but I'm not a web designer so the technical aspects of RSS are above me! _________________ Darren Griffin |
