I must admit to being a bit aggrieved when i found out the cam data base was to be charged for. I was still using the Nov 05 data so i took the plunge and paid my £2 for this months download. I was working in Reading that week and on Friday travelled home to Burnley with the new data in the TomTom. I must have spotted about 5 cams on the way that were incorrectly notified with 1 or 2 new ones.
I know GPSWorld says that the information has to be verified by them but i know for a fact that the above cams changed some 2 months ago.
How long does it take GPSWorld to verify and update a change cam location in the data base?
Confused Do you know about the changed temporary cams on say the M40 Sad
I might as well stayed with the Nov 05 file if the new data base is that far out
If GPSWorld are going to continue charging for the data base it should get it right within the week. Come on guys I feel I’ve been ripped of a bit here, what you got to say about the above and no excuses you’re getting paid for this now.

If no-one has submitted the locations (because they left it to someone else0, it could take a long time to be included in the database.Smile

2 months is not long in the camera world, by the time some-one has seen them and reported them. Then there's the verification. This is not an instant process.

The debate on charging was long and detailed (turgid some would say Smile ) - you can see it if you want at the first post in this forum.

The point is if you had ever contributed to the database, either with a camera or a contribution you got free life membership. So nobody who had actually helped build the database, rather than just used it, lost out in any way.

And you still can get free life membership if you are the first to post just one new fixed camera. So why not report the errors you found?

In the meantime the general concensus is that you will not find a more accurate GPS database, and it is still cheaper than the rest too.

Remember that it requires 2 reports of the camera before it will make it into the database.

If you've contributed and also subscribed, you should get a lifetime extension.

Depends what the contribution was. Only fixed position cameras count towards the free membership upgrade.

Ah .... its good to see the level of reasoned debate on this forum improving so much. Wink

If you, after only 3 posts (last count), have contributed, then you may be entitled to free membership for life. I never did so I am not .... but then I am not doing the complaining.

And that, to me, is now the core of the problem with charging.

When I first started contributing (every month I sent in a few changes), by the next month they were always included.

Now, with verification needed, who knows how long it will take to get a new camera in a remote location added?
Temporary cameras at roadworks could have come and gone again by the time the new system catches up.

Oldboy your spot on with your comments.
I would also like to add that I don't like paying for an out of date data base, it should be updated every week in my view if GPSWorld get the updates from us.
Is it that we the users are not submitting cams locations for GPSWorld to update?

To add to my first post and to the above comments, I drove to work today and clocked the cams that I was moaning about.
2 cams just north of J15 on the M6
1 cam 2 miles north of J13 on the M6
1 cam 1 mile north of J10 on the M40
1 cam ¼ mile north on J10 on the M40
1 cam at J10 on the M40
1 cam 2 miles south of J10 on the M40
1 cam 2½ miles south of J10 on the M40
1 cam ½ mile north of J9 on the M40
1 cam at J9 on the M40

10 cams in total, will accept about 2/3 of the cams have just been removed but not the others. They went ages ago!

Robert, had a look at you link and it would seem that you are looking into making the cam submissions easy to handle at your end.

Sorry i have to be blunt here but why didn’t you do this earlier?

By the way i have loaded POI capture on the TomTom and will be posting some cam changes as and when i find them.

Terry, Capture as many as you find, including the existing ones - only where safe to do so I might add.
The software will work out the new ones and changes - Mike
