I am a serving police officer who is responsible for the intelligence on a lot of these thefts in Bedfordshire.
Fortunately we are frequently now recovering stolen devices and arresting the offenders
Unfortunately despite the work of PGPS and Immobilise we struggle to identify these devices (including most makes / types)
Evidentially I do not to encourage my colleagues to tamper with them too much.
I need recommendations for software etc that will download a route and show me the exact waypoint or POI onto a computer.
Frequently all we get is HOME or WORK etc. Many of my colleagues are techno phobes and computer illiterate so the simpler the better.
Thanks KEV |

Excellent news. Well done to you and your colleagues!

Do you mean identify the actual type of device (i.e. TomTom GO 500) or identify the actual original owner of the stolen goods?

Presumably the stolen devices may or may not have 12/24v power cables and even more presumably you won’t recover the devices with computer cables.

Would you mind contacting me via PM/email with your real name, number, and station that you work from and a convenient time to contact you and we’ll discuss this off line. In this day and age I’d prefer to ensure that you are indeed a currently serving police officer and I don’t want to give an undesirable any ideas either. No offence intended.

Why not switch on and naviagate, to the owners, home. Knock on one or two doors and you can return it. :D _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Lost_Property - I beleive i am better served kicking doors in Luton than knocking doors around the UK trying to find the owner
I really would appreciate any one log onto www.immobilise.com prior to the theft then both them and this site if/when it is stolen. |

I guess what I should have said is... Get a lock on the unit then navigate to Home. It will show on the map where the owner lives, who could be the real owner or the 'new' owner.
But hey, forget that, kick a few more doors in. Can you give us the Postcode of where the culprits live? We can then all navigate there, look for a missing door, walk in and do a bit of kicking ourselves. :P :P _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

They could of course just go to the edit home bit and it will show the home address, it would be just a couple of seconds work for anyone computer literate enough to send e.mails. |
