It would be helpful for posters asking questions and given a solution to come back and just let us know if the suggestion worked. So many threads just hang in the air - it only takes a minute and will help and possibly stop others asking the same question.

Yes it would be nice but I can understand someone, who has probably been pulling their hair out, is so pleased that they've got it going, they just don't think.

Or maybe the suggestion didn't work and they went out and got lost forever. :P

Coming back to confirm a positive result shouldn't be a matter of thinking, but a matter of courtesy and politeness. Sadly this seems to be becoming less and less common in society.

A 'thank you' might also be in order - it's the little things like that...knowing you have helped someone...that makes you continue doing it. And you also know you've got the answer right for the next time.

If you don't know if your advice/comments worked, aren't you less likely to feel inclined to carry on trying to help? Confused

There have been some incidences of users posting a one-off message to thank someone for something but not linking to the original thread. This makes it rather difficult to work out who is being thanked and for what. Smile

I don't know how practical it it to impliment but on the "Money saving expert" forum there is a "Thanks" button which does give Helpful posters a sort of ranking and helps keep the number of non informative posts down.
