I'm new to this pocket pc lark, have recently bought a 2210 mainly for in car navigation.

Is it possible to use the infra red to connect to a mobile that also has infra red to make calls to the internet, ie use it as a modem? I used to do this succesfully with my old laptop (current one doesn't have ir), and my phone Nokia 6210, but have so far failed to do this with the pda.

I'm expecting the answer to be no, I had to install a driver on the laptop (came with the phone), so suspect that this would be a likely stumbling block, but would like somebody with more experience to pass comment.

It's a shame work didn't see fit to give me a 6310, bluetooth would solve the problem I guess.

My guess is that the answer is No. You could connect to the Internet to do your email but I don't think even with Bluetooth you could use the 'Internet phone' option - i.e international calls via the Internet at local ISP connection prices.

Ta for the reply, I was actually just wanting to use it to collect some pop3 mail when on the road.

Upon closer inspection I realised where I was going wrong, once I set it up as a new connection with a generic irda modem it worked a treat. Obviously no good for heavy use but handy for collecting the odd mail when out and about.

You should be able to use Infra Red from the Pocket PC to a mobile phone to connect via the internet. I used to do this on the older Nokia's when I didn't have the luxury of Bluetooth. It's a pain as you need to have direct line of sight, but it does work. Providing the phone has what is called a soft modem, you shouldn't have any problems.
