But if they're inundated with them and they've got to mess about removing yours from the paper it's stuck to, maybe they've put it to one side and are clearing those they can deal with quickly. Presumably they would need to remove every trace of paper and glue from it to make sure it's going to work OK?

Sent mine off Special Delivery on Tuesday 28/3 and back this morning Fri 31/3. Interestingly the postmark was Romsey, but guess that may be their own automated maching they shipped up to Nottingham?

Also It was a new card and made in China. I noticed when I plugged it in the I3 that the screen came up as usual but then did a 'flicker' or refresh and then everything normal. Do you think it was writing the unit number to the security part of the card?

Posted mine on 9th March & was returned today 24th March. A bit slow I guess, but I'm not complaining. Garmin didn't have to update the map, so I think they are being very generous in their return and update policy. :D

I'm still claiming the record for the longest turnaround. Laughing Laughing

just for everyone's information:

the cards DO NOT GET DONE in Nottingham. ALL 'freepost NAME' letters go to Royal Mail's central sorting office in nottingham before being forwarded to the relevent place - hence it shows as being passed to nottingham.

just thought i'd share that with ya!

Try www.royalmail.com and type in the 13 digit reference code (in the Track and Trace It box) you would have been given when you sent your item special delivery and it will tell you when Garmin received the item. Goods are insured to receipt by the addressee, not to the Nottingham sort centre.

I have done this already and this is the info im getting:

Thank you for using this service.

We can confirm that this item was delivered before the guaranteed time.

and when i click on electronic proof:
Electronic Proof of Delivery is not available for your item. Please note that it may take up to 72 hours from delivery to become available.

so what does this all mean.. i sent it on 24/3/2006 Embarassed should i be worried?

i had an email from royal mail basically saying you can't use recorded delivery on a 'freepost NAME' address because it has to go via nott's to get re-routed. because of this they can't guaruntee delivery times so in theory shouldnt' be able to use special delivery. if it was a full freepost address (56 freepost garmin, john street, wakefield,wf18 7by) as opposed to free post name (freepost GARMIN) then you can use special delivery.

this is why we can never get the proof of delivery - only the standard text saying it was delivered or sent out this morning or whatever. if you phone them they'll tell you it left the nott's office on xxx day
