As a newbie on TT I was unsure whether this problem was real - or just the kind of thing that happens to a beginner. I will describe it.

TT had navigated me correctly to a town and apeared to be taking me correctly to the specific location. We were within a couple of roads of the destination when it told me to turn RIGHT. There was NO RIGHT TURN to take so I went on, turned round and came back. It now told me to TURN RIGHT at that same point in the road ( it would have been LEFT in the direction I was initially going). I turned Right and found my destination.

So what happened was that the Voice prompt told me to turn RIGHT when I suspect it should have been a Turn LEFT.

This may have happened on a different occasion too but I cannot be certain about that one.

I asked a friend who said that that had also happened to him BUT the screen display was actually correct. In other words he is saying that the voice prompt and the screen display are different.

This is quite worrying if this is truly happening so I would be keen to hear of any other experiences.

I haven't seen this happen before, but it certainly can happen if the data at that specific turn location isn't correct within the data files, it could cause direction/routing issues.

Actually this is being talked about a lot on the german forums, and most of the time it seems to happen at highway exits, cloverleafs etc. Most probably a map irregularity that you may want to report to TeleAtlas.

As you have noticed the display is correct but the voice may point to the opposite direction.

I had something similar today actually. Approaching a roundabout TTN2 voice commands told me to turn left, 5th exit! It was quite clearly an extreme right turn.

I must reluctantly deduce that my problem isn't uncommon but I am consoled that someone like Dave , with his experience of the product, has not actually seen it himself. That impies that it is not as widespread as one might fear.

The question is what to do about it. If I report it to TT will they take action? or should I report to Telemaps(?)? If so where? Presumably they simply need an accuracte indication of the road junction - anything else?

RoyC,

the best place would be here.

This wil take you to the TeleAtlas Map discrepancy reporting page.

Thank you for your help!

Hi Roy
My wife and I have been using TTN2 for about 5 months now and we've had this happen quite a few times. It seems to happen to me once about every 2 or 3 days and Julie gets it about once a fortnight. We are both running the software on iPac's, hers is a 3950 and mine is a 3970 (same machine but with Bluetooth). We both tend to glance at the map when we get a voice command so it has never caused any problems, just a smile and the mental comment that "she's" forgotten "her" left and right again Smile

Thanks to everyone for their input. I am glad I am not alone. HOWEVER I have a confession to make. I returned to the map to extract exact information of where I was when this happened and discovered the cause of the problem I think.

To recap , I was driving along and was told to turn right ( it also said - 'and immediately left') when it should have been left. Looking at the map it is clear that the road did a fairly full right turn although as I was driving I didn't really notice that. The issue is that while that road bent to the right IT ALSO CHANGED NAME so TT saw it as a turn - which is fair enough. Had I realised that it was a differently named road I could have rationalised it myself but I didn't. I wonder if this explains other occurences?

As a very new user of Satnav and TT I have only so far come across one major unexplained anomaly.

Over the weekend I used it for a journey from Dorset to Ipswich. TT correctly routed me up M3, round M25 to Dartford Tunnel.

However, on several occasions between M3 and Dartford, "She" wanted me to Exit the M25, as if "She" thought I had missed an earlier exit. Fortunately, I knew that part of the route so I just ignored it. I did not have the same problem on the return journey. Any other M25 users experienced this?

Equally fortunately, "She" was faultless around Ipswich (where I had never been before).

Perhaps 'SHE' needs a rest. I wonder if 'HE' does any better!!!

Laughing Nice one Stevie. I reckon he probably does do better, after all he's a bloke so therefore understands how roads, cars and signs work!

As a sort of side issue, I also had a route that was familiar to me before I got satnav planned by TTN2 which sent me a very strange way. It sent me on a trip 25% longer in terms of distance than my old pre satnav route. I had to force it to change it's mind by the use of artificial roadblocks etc, or in fact just driving the route I already knew. I think it may be down to my speed settings. Does anyone have a good combo of settings?

If you actually think about it logically you do actually turn left not right in this case. Though it is quite inconsistant sometimes you are told to turn right at roundabouts, and sometimes left.

The problem with this is that you will always find that you know the back roads or short cuts. Setting the speeds will probably never give you the exact route you would take with your experience. The difference is that you learn where the fast turns and routes are,and will base this on a number of different factors, which will only work for that route at that time.

When you travel in a neighborhood you are not used to TT will always get you to your destination using a percieved best option.

One thing you could try is to reduce all the speeds to the same setting and see where it takes you. This will often work well in towns over short distances, but not too well when you are routing between towns. TT always seems to prefer to route on the major roads, try turning the speeds down a bit on these and see how yuo get on.

I've tried that MikeB and think I'm getter closer to a preferred set of figures. Will keep experimenting.

What would be good though, and one perhaps for the Navigator 2 wishlist forum, is an option along the lines of 'use B roads when possible' as a preferred route calculation on short journeys. To take in the scenery and such like! Laughing Also, the option to omit some roads from the trip before the journey begins, as opposed to waiting to you're almost on it before having that option.

Anyway, getting a bit of topic hear sorry.
