Could anyone who has successfully got this combination working help?
I have been running Smart ST with NAVman jacket on my Ipaq successfully for a few years and seeing TT5 decided to upgrade the software but use the same hardware set-up.
I have uninstalled Smart ST and installed TT5 then downloaded the NAVman Jacket driver from the NAVman site. Unfortunately although the software recognises the jacket and searches for a "valid GPS signal" it never actually gets a fix. I don't have a heat resistant windscreen and have had the thing searching for over an hour. I have set the baud rate to a setting where it detects the jacket quickly.
Are there different drivers for different NAVman jackets and i may have the wrong one or is there another problem. I did have both Smart ST running and TT5 initially and TT5 worked for a teasing 20 minutes and then didn't after that. that is why I uninstalled Smart ST and downloaded a new NAVman driver because I thought there was a conflict. If you can help I would gladly appreciate it.
Thanks, Paul, Wirral UK |

Can you check your iPAQ model, as I don't recall a 3450. I will correct the thread title for you when I know what to change it to, and then we can move onto your problems. _________________ Tim |

Thanks for swift reply Tim. You are correct - my set up is actually, Compaq Ipaq 3850, Navman 3450 and I am hoping to run TomTom 5.
I look forward to your assistance! Cheers |

The correct driver is available from here. It is the Navman Serial Driver 3.1.6.
You should install this without the sleeve attached. After installing the driver and sleeve, start TTN5.
Configure the GPS as Other Cable GPS (or Other NMEA device), set the baud rate to 57600 and then select Navman Serial Driver as the port. If that option doesn't appear, try all the serial ports in turn.
I have TTN5 working with my Navman SE (3450) sleeve on an iPAQ 3970 and 5555. Perhaps it's just too much for the 38xx series.... _________________ Tim |

Tim
I have that serial driver which i downloaded after I uninstalled the Smart ST.
I have alsoe set up teh GPS on TT5 preferences as you say and although it detects the GPS device (ie stops displaying the message "No GPS device") and obtains the correct time through the GPS and the little yellow circle turns it cannot get a fix despite having it on in my car for over an hour with the message "No valid GPS signal" Any ideas? As i said in my original post I did have it work once when I had both Smart ST and TT5 on the Ipaq but then it struggled to get a fix so i uninstalled Smart ST and installed the new driver. Ho hum |

When you say you have it in your car, are you moving? TTN5 seems to take forever to get a fix with a Navman sleeve when moving; it's much better to be stationary. I put mine in the back garden on the table and eventually it gets a lock. Once locked, it tends to keep the fix. _________________ Tim |

Hi Tim
Thanks for your ongoing assistance. This may be the problem. I am moving in my car waiting to get a fix. I'll try the set up outside stationary and let you know how I get on. |

Eureka!!! That did it - I can't believe it was such a simple solution! I went and stood outside with the new set up and hey presto within 3 minutes it had tracked and got a fix on 7 satellites. I didn't think that setting off in the car and waiting would be a problem and I didn't fancy standing outside with the weather we have had lately!
Many thanks for your assitance. I will now set aboout using TT5 to get be about on my frequent building surveys.
I also have another minor problem which doesn't seem to effect performance of the software when I start the Ipaq without the jacket on I get the following error message
Notification Error
Cannot execute
\\.\Notifications\Named Events\Event WakeUp Tom Tom
Do you know what this is? Or should I start a new thread and post this one up for people to have a think about?
Also, do you know much about the update for TT5? My friend says it has caused him a few problems but he thinks it is more to do with a dodgy data card. I don't know whether to update mine for fear of causing glitches. I'll have a look in the forums and see if any one has got any feed back.
Once again, many thanks, I am grateful.

Had that irritating message myself.
I had to soft-reset, start up TTN5, tap on the Exit Application button in the main menu, and it disappeared after my subsequent restarts. It only returned if I didn't use the Exit Application button in TTN5 before I turned off/soft-reset the PDA. |
