Hello, can anyone help.
My pda went flat and when I charged it rebooted and started up as if brand new. Now I don't even have tomtom. I connected up to my desk top to do a restore and it wont let me sync up as it thinks that my pda is a new one and not the one I had. help

This is not a problem. Connect the PDA in guest mode and do the restore. This will also make the PDA remember its real name.

Aha! Does that explain why the first time I did a full restore I had to select guest mode, but subsequently I haven't had to?

Thanks for the info.
I had tried guest logon and then restore, but that but it kept telling me that the devices were incompatible.
I have tried again and this time read the help file, this told me that you may get this message if the regional settings are different, well of course it had defaulted to US English, I reset it to UK English and tried again. Bingo, all restored and running again Phew ! Laughing

what i did was to go in to programs and select ebackup which enables you to back up to the storage card it backs everything that is installed on your pda to the card dead easy to restore back from card no need to sync up to pc

I have also noted the same problem following a 'hard reset' with ActiveSync not accepting that it is the same PDA and refusing to allow the restore to proceed.

I also use e-Backup which is pre-installed on my MIO168, but I do not think that program is provided with all PDAs, although an equivalent probably is.

To avoid problems in the future, I would recomend making a full backup (with a program which doesn't keep insisting that the PDA is not the same)immediately following a hard re-set and keeping it as a 'base' position, so that if you ever have to go back to an initial position to start again, you can immediately recover it to ensure that all those 'little settings' you didn't know about are the same.

It may be that the problem with the PDA being 'different' is restricted to certain PDAs, or it may be to do with the operating system (UK spec MIO168 uses Windows Mobile 2003 first edition) I do not know.

Anyone offer any help here????

The battery on my OHs iPAQ 2210 went flat, and everything was lost.
I'm trying to do a restore via active sync, and I encountered the "Change region to English UK, ILO English US" problem (Which I wouldnt have known about without having read this thread....)

The problem occures after the restore has taken place....

The instructions say to do a (soft?) reset. When I try to do this, It locks up.....I get the "HP" screen, with teh progress bar starting at the left, but once it reaches the right (100%) the device locks up! Sad

any suggestions on what I can try next?
