I would like to WAYPOINTS included and/or the ability to change a route by 'drag and drop' as used in AUTOROUT.

This would mean that GPSASSIST would br redundant and one could 'fine tune' the proposed route.

Fuego - not sure. The hardware button assignments that you can make to Windows Media player only apply when it is "on top", at all other times it reverts to default (or the assignments of the currently active program).

I'm not sure about getting rid of the 3D view - although I don't use it, it's nice to show off every now and then. Plus they might use it eventually to develop an auto-dimension-type thing, similar to auto zoom (although I don't know how powerful the 3-d engine is).

That said, the 3d view is a little odd, when the map itself is only in 2d (isn't it?). I guess it does mean that you can see over hillds, but it can seem a like like holding a normal map at an odd angle...

(1) Proper Postcode Search - How hard is it? I live in a rural area, half the places I need to get to have not got a road name or a number. Postcode search is essential

(2) Option to make TTN use speed limit signs and also warn you if you are exceeding the limit as you enter those areas.

I will think of some more later, but the Postcode search is the Number 1 thing TTN should be working on!!!

Just my 2p...i agree with most of the previous wishes, but just wanted to voice my wishes too Smile

1) Navigator view: have a bar at the top (like bottom) showing current road info. Name/Number etc. Just like to know where i am.

2) Waypoints: absolute must!!

3) Journey/Overall stats, Trip time/distance/top speed/average speed etc. A nice to have!

4) Variable navigator map angle

5) Preferred roads..have a list of roads (selectable from map view) to illustrate increased efficiency.

Fingers crossed for the next update!!!

Having just used TTN2 to tracvel 4,000 from denmark to Germany/Benelux/France/UK/Spain and back to Denmark, I woiuld really appreciate the ability to plan and run routes accross borders without having to stop and change maps, as someone wrote earlier in this thread.

A little more care in checking the map information might be helpful - TTN2 tried to take me down 2 roads in Spain that were still under construction and not yet open! The re-route on one occasion was some way back the way I had come.

Not sure whether I've raised this, but more flexible avoids...

- ability to avoid x metre height restrictions (if you're in a high-top vehicle)

- ability to avoid thin roads (if you're a wide-load)

- ability to avoid fast roads (if you're a slow vehicle)

- ability to avoid built up areas (if you're a works vehicle)

- ability to add vehicles to the system and select which vehicle you're in, to automatically invoke specific preferences

Auto day/night switching based on sunrise/set times.

Intelligence to warn you if you're changing lanes without signalling (if you're an OAP)

Oh yeah, the ability to avoid weight restriction areas if you're heavy.

All of these would presumably require more data in the map to do with max-min speeds, max weight, width and all that jazz.

Clearly, TomTom and others can only do this if the base data has the full postcode mapping available. This may or may not be available in the TeleAtlas and NavTech data - I don't know...

Certainly, TomTom's implementation of the postcode search is not as useful as it could have been. Maybe it works better with european addresses?

Tim

Pioneer's in-car systems do exactly what you've described, providing full postcode entry. They use NavTech for their maps.

So I fail to see why it's a problem for other software.

One big problem with postcode entry is getting the memory footprint of the data small enough. That Pioneer system probably has at least an entire CD available to cover the UK - and may not be displaying maps either. That Navigator 2 gets the full Great_Britain map in 95MB is pretty amazing!

The other thing is that including full postcode data will probably increase the price of Navigator - as the postcode to location database has to be licensed.

There has been some talk as to whether an add-on that provides postcode support is feasible. Technically it appears feasible (the SDK is fairly comprehensive) - but there's no sign of anyone producing such an add-on.

I'd like postcode navigation - but there is a limit to how much I'll pay for it, both financially and in terms of increased memory footprint (my current setup is right on the limit of a 256MB SD card - I don't just use my Pocket PC for navigation).

Nice to have regions like Germany/Switzerland/Austria and Belgium/Netherlands/Luxembourg. More regions! Perhaps France/Switzerland, Italy/Switzerland, France/Spain, Germany/France, perhaps even Germany/France/Switzerland/Austria (For those that use bluetooth GPS, hence can put in 1GB CF).

That TTN sets the PPC clock using the time signal from the GPS. It could at least synchronise the minutes and seconds even if it didnt set the time zone based on location.

TonyP - nice one - especially since my PPC seems to completely forget what time and day it is every now and then (which is something my wristwatch never used to do - until I gave it to a taxi driver in a late nite drunken cash mix up, but that's a different story).

DavidW - doesn't the Pioneer map ship on DVD-ROM? Or was that the Alpine and/or Kenwood?

How about sorting out Address search and its integration with the PocketPC Contacts. Sometimes I have to put the house number after the street name in order to get TTN2 to show the location of a house using Tap-and-hold in Contacts.

It is possible to use Other Address in Contacts to store an address that TTN2 can use, but we should not have to do that.

Richard

PS. At the bottom of Page 1 of this thread I made a wish that Cessquill worked for TomTom so that we would get lots of goodies in TTN3. My guess is that it still has not come true.

A route export facility like the one CoPilot uses. That would (sort of) solve the problem of cross-border routing.

At first I was puzzled by TomTom's lack of interest in this area, considering where they're located, but when I saw that they've put the whole of Benelux on one map, I realised it probably isn't such a big issue for them!

Not much help for the rest of us, though.

Also the ability to set preferences for motorways, ferries etc. I'm fed up with TomTom trying to send me across the Woolwich Ferry!
